Hundreds shine a light on memories of loved ones

The service at K2 on Sunday (December 1) was the largest of its kind across Sussex and Surrey.

Some 900 people listened to readings, sang songs and took time to remember those who have passed on.

Among those who dedicated a light to a loved one was Olivia Beckwith (pictured right), who attended the service with her one-year-old son Raphael.

The child’s father died when he was only a few weeks old.

Jen Wickham, event organiser, said: “We hold our Tree of Light services as a way for local people to find comfort by taking time to remember loved ones that they have lost.”

A number of smaller services will be held across the two counties this Sunday (December 8).

They include a service at Crawley United Reformed Church, Worth Park Avenue, at 4pm and St Bartholomew’s Church, Church Road, Horley, at 5pm.

The Tree of Light will shine out for all to see in front of the hospice in Malthouse Road, Southgate, until Twelfth Night.

St Catherine’s Hospice provides end of life care and support to terminally ill people and their families across Crawley, Horsham, East Surrey and Mid Sussex.
