Hundreds sign anti-Aquarena tower petition

Nearly 1,000 people have signed a petition condemning the proposed 15-storey tower block currently being considered for the Aquarena site.

The Worthing Society and members of the Save Our Seafront Group held a signing event in Montague Place today to raise awareness for their campaign.

Susan Belton, chairman of the Worthing Society, said:

“We are here to raise awareness to the local population. It is their town and they need to have their say.”

Asked about the plans for the Aquarena site in Brighton Road she said: “We need to get a quality development there, not a tower block out of character with the Victorian seaside character of Worthing.”

The groups estimate they now have nearly 1,000 signatures and will be holding more signing events on Wednesday and the following Saturday.

According to Ben Cheal from developers Roffey Homes, the proposed £45million project would create a new garden square, extensive public space and a seafront pavilion café, plus commercial space and public parking for the Splashpoint centre
