A 69-year-old man, described by police as ‘a bit of a loner’ is still missing from his home near Blackboys.
Bruce Coleman lives on his own in a caravan in Nursery Lane. He was reported missing last week by neighbours who were concerned they hadn’t seen him for some days.
About 80 volunteers recruited through the local Neighbourhood Watch group joined in the search for Mr Coleman but he has still not been found.
Posters have been put up locally and it is believed police are already beginning to trawl local lakes, streams and ponds.
Leading the manhunt, DI Rob Morland said: “Mr Coleman lives in a rural location and is a bit of a ‘loner’, but is normally seen quite regularly by his neighbours who are rightly concerned for him. We have checked with family members, local hospitals and other locations where he might have gone and on Saturday a South East Air Support Unit helicopter was deployed to search woodland and fields in the area. Police officers have now been joined by Lowland Search Dogs and more than 80 volunteer searchers.”
He’s described as white, of stocky build with thinning, receding hair and has a beard. He may be wearing a blue crew necked jumper and dark trousers.
DI Morland went on: “We are increasingly concerned for Mr Coleman’s welfare, particularly as the weather has turned colder.” Anyone who sees him is asked to call Sussex Police on: 101 quoting serial number: 852 of 10/11. If he is in danger or in need of medical attention, call 999 immediately. A picture of Mr Coleman can be found on the police website at: www.sussex.police.uk/news
