Hunt drops case to ban monitors

The Crawley and Horsham Hunt has halted its injunction proceedings against West Sussex Wildlife Protection and Simon Wild and Jaine Wild, who it was claimed 'acted on behalf of members and supporters of West Sussex Wildlife Protection Group and West Sussex Badger Protection Group'.

The development has come more than a year after the court case began.

Mr Wild said: "The Crawley and Horsham hunt has been forced to withdraw from an action the Countryside Alliance had originally engineered as a master plan designed to defeat the Hunting Act by preventing monitoring.

"If they had achieved this, it would have spread nationwide and been game, set and match for hunting."

Mrs Wild's solicitor, Victoria Pogge von Strandmann, said: "These proceedings should never have been brought. We are pleased they are now being withdrawn."

Mrs Wild remains committed to her lawful hunt monitoring activities to ensure the hunting ban is upheld.

The hunt was backed by the Countryside Alliance as it attempted to obtain a landmark judgment in trespass, nuisance and harassment against West Sussex Wildlife Protection.

However, the trespass and nuisance claims were rejected by the court to leave only the harassment claim.
