Tracey Boverhoff, who saw the potential in starting a group, said: “Having children meant that I needed to re-think my job situation. I needed a job that was more flexible and starting my own business seemed the best solution.

“I knew there would be other women in my position, running their own businesses. I recognise the importance of recommendations and realised a networking group could really help.”

Tracey set up ‘Hurst Women in Business’ last year and the group meets once a month in a friendly, informal environment.

The meetings provide an opportunity to network and to discuss business ideas and issues. Recent topics have covered the marketing value of social media such as Facebook, Twitter and apps through to understanding tax and book-keeping.

All the topics are presented by subject specialists with professional knowledge.

Just as critical is the support offered to individuals within the group on any matter that may affect them or their business, such as the challenges of time management whilst juggling childcare and work.

Women belonging to the group were photographed by fellow member and photographer Claire Goldsmith at Danny House in Hurstpierpoint.

From dog groomer to book-keeper, scenic artist and muralist to landscape gardener, women in the picture displayed a tool of their trade.

Tracey, who lives in Hurstpierpoint and has her own business as part of independent travel company, Travel Counsellors, said: “The group has established a strong sense of loyalty to each other which has enabled trust and friendships to grow.”

If you have set up a business in the area or are thinking of doing so, the group would like to hear from you. You can find out more at:
