The lost dog reported in last week’s column has been reunited with his owners in Eastbourne. He was “on holiday “ in Hurst Green but managed to escape his temporary accommodation.

There is an king size bed on offer free from the address at the foot of this column, owing to the house move.

There was some good cricket at Drewetts Field on Sunday when Hurst Green lost by 3 wickets to Hastings Wanderers. Hurst Green scored 186 all out the top scorers being Hardy 27, Baldock and Hooker 26 each and Ian Wright making 20. Some good bowling changed the early score of 92 for 1 into the 188 for 7. Neeve took 2 for 35 and Hardy 2 for 33.As last week there was an array of good strokes and tight fielding from both sides. Next match is versus Tenterden.

There are various activities in the village which need to be publicised:

Brownies, Meet of the Tongue, The Choir, the newly set up Ageing Well groups, the Friendship Club, the allotments,(how neat and tidy they are) Trefoil Guild, the cricket club and various sporting clubs such as the Short Mat Bowling Club. In addition it is essential that news of the new shop complex is kept in the public eye not only in Hurst Green but in other villages which are covered by the Observer. A most important item of news is the school when events take place there, with the Playgroup also active and needs coverage from time to time. The Parish Magazine will keep residents informed of major news regarding the Parish Council and the minutes of meetings are displayed on the notice board at the corner of Station Road and London Road.

The church remains closed at present but there are hopes of a new beginning in due course. Meanwhile the roses look lovely in the churchyard, each one in memory of a lost loved one. Services are held at Salehurst at 11 am and in Fair Lane Room, Roberstbridge at 9.am for a short Communion service.

Mr. Harris chiropodist calls at the Village Hall Wednesday and Thursday afternoons sand this is a great asset to the village.

The beautiful array of roses at the village sign are a tribute to Mr. Robin Cruse who is often seen quietly tending this patch of colour. He deserves our thanks.
