Hurst Green Village Voice

If brevity is the essence of wit this column will be the funniest thing since The Marx Brothers.

The Short Mat Bowling Club has come back into the headlines following the friendliest of AGMs in the history of AGMs.

What jolly nice people they are, so if you want to be cheered up join the bowlers, any age, shape, size or political persuasion .

With Mr. Bogue in the Chair, the meeting purred along cheerfully and plans are laid for a Christmas Social, an Annual Dinner and supporting “Children in Need”.

The Chairman reported new members had joined and that, with Captain Ray Young, 10 matches had been won, being the majority of those played (but please do not mention Rye, a lost match, with the highest scoring to date -101 against 83).

It was pointed out that all matches are friendlies; could they be anything else with that all those smiling faces and plenty of laughs?

There is to be a change of time for one of the Thursday sessions but this will be advertised in the parish magazine which goes to every house in Hurst Green.

The committee was re-elected and officers are Chairman. Mr. Maurice Bogue, Secretary Mrs. Bogue, Treasurer Mrs. Sue Endean and the rota for match food providers was ensured before the meeting closed to be organise by Morag who then presented wine and a mysterious envelope to Mr. Bogue in appreciation of his dedication to the Club.

More than a passing word, must be expressed, in praise of the new Parish Magazine which is of the highest standard in every respect.

It is delivered free but maybe we, grateful villagers could manage a quid or two to help it on its useful way.

Why not advertise if you have commercial contacts, and please support the advertisers saying where you saw their advert.
