Another cause for congratulations has to be Comedy Capers, under their director Michael White, for their successful pantomime Aladdin. Andy Burt (Widow Twanky) dominating the stage, the irrepressible Steve Wright (Genie of the Lamp) and Helen Wallbridge as evil Abanazer, whose stage diction is flawless, were planets sparkling in a show of stars.

An enchanting performance by Charlie Frampton and Joy Clark as Kung Fu Pandas, with their melting song “You Got a Friend in Me” and their well co-ordinated cuddly animal movements sent the capacity audience into raptures.

The singing and colourful dancing of the Youth Chorus which had been superbly trained brought forth enthusiastic applause.

The entire cast carried no “dead wood” and the cheering at the end showed how much the audience had enjoyed the sweetness of Princess Jasmine (Fredie Frampton) and the romantic Aladdin (Matthew Redman) and each player in their own role The Techno-Experts showed skill and imagination in the Magic Carpet scene, which would not have been out of place on a West End stage, as we floated out of Hurst Green Village Hall to far away exotic places. The three man huge red fiery dragon did well to run along the aisles in the dark.

None of this could have happened without the support of the back room boys and girls , the bar helpers, the refreshments ladies, make- up artists, scenery painters and prompters when the ad libs ran out -why not join the company?

The meeting of the shop complex for share holders, on Sunday 25, was most positive attended by about 40 people.

The Chairman, Mr. Stephen Hardy, advised that much of the finance required has been raised and he paid tribute to Mr.Allan Fisher who had been the “source of tremendous wisdom and experience in getting (it) started”

To all currently serving on the Board he expressed appreciation but felt that mention should be made of Mrs. Maureen Harniman who, as Treasurer, works skilfully and tireless for this “stimulating and exciting” project”

together with Mr. Bob Janes whose commitment as secretary is greatly valued. The Board of Directors is also well served by Mesdames Lesley Bristow and Sue Prochak and Mr. James Acock who acts as publicity and PR

agent while Mrs. Prochak addressed the meeting on role of volunteers. All

appealed for support from the Village. More share holders are welcomed and the need for people to help run it is a key factor. A nice reward was waiting for those who attended in the form of perfections of confections by Sarah Thorpe whose home made cakes looked too perfect to eat but when they were eaten became even more wonderful! If such goodies are to be on sale in the cafe and in the shop -prepare for police have to control the traffic.

The school had a German Day recently when strudel’s were cooked, German spoken, pupils came in the colours of the flag red, yellow and black. The geography of the country was studied and the personal links with Ellerhoop were thought about, as that village is twinned with Hurst Green.
