Hurst Library: has a new look! Do pop in and have a look at the changes to our library. New look shelving, display areas and counter give a fresher more modern feel. While you are there have a look at the Museum Group's new display for the Festival all about Sussex Vineyards.

Hurst Festival: ends this weekend! Two glorious weeks with something for everyone, in a multitude of venues throughout the village. There are still events to come from Thursday to Sunday so if you haven’t book your tickets, go online at www.hurstfestival.org or visit the box office at the Players Theatre which is open each Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 9.30 am and 1 pm.

Vision of Peace: this year’s Festival Art Exhibition, again curated by artist Penny Hopkins, opens in Holy Trinity Church on 15 September. One of the themes of this year’s Festival is ‘Peace’ to mark the end of the First World War and many other events do the same. The children of St. Lawrence School are again taking part. Last year, their paintings of Wolstonbury were greatly admired, and we look forward to seeing their artwork again.

Saturday, 22 September, 2.15 pm, Village Centre: Hurstpierpoint Horticultural Society Autumn Show Autumn flowers and vegetables, cookery, photography and children’s exhibits. Exhibiting is free and open to all simply pick up a schedule from Gibson’s in the High Street. Home-made cake and tea all afternoon. Raffle and auction at end of show.

Thursday, 27 September, 8 pm, Village Centre, Parish Council Meeting.

Friday 28th September, 10 am to 12 noon, Sayers Common Village Hall (behind the Community Shop): the biggest Macmillan coffee morning. There will be Home-made cakes for sale (more welcome on the Day!) books, CD’s Bring & Buy and a Raffle. plus delicious coffee! Come along for a great social event for a very good cause

Kevin Carey’s new play: Winning the Peace, commissioned by the Festival, has two more performances on 28 and 30 September.

Hurst Village Cinema, October films: at the Players Theatre

Thursday 11 October, 8 pm: A Fantastic Woman (15) won the Oscar for the best film not in the English Language at the last Academy Awards. Thrilling, mysterious, moving.

Friday 26 October, 8 pm: The Old Dark House (PG), received 5-star reviews everywhere for this gloriously restored classic which invented the ‘creepy house film genre’ at the same time as lampooning. Both creepy and very funny in turn.

Sunday 28 October, 3 pm: The Olive Tree (12A), a deceptively simple, soulful film filled with gentleness and charm which has two stars, the feisty Spanish actress and a vast, gnarled, thousand-year-old olive tree.
