NEIGHBOURHOOD PANEL MEETING: coming up on 24 November at 6.30pm to 7.45pm in the Village Centre, Conference Room, allows everyone to talk about local items of concern and decide on the priority issues set out for the area and how they will be managed.

HURST HASSOCKS & DITCHLING U3A: has a meeting at Adastra Hall on Friday 25 November at 2pm. Peter Bowles is coming to talk about Can’t pay, won’t pay. All welcome.

HURSTPIERPOINT CHRISTMAS FAIR: at the Village Centre on Friday 25 November from 6.30pm to get an early start, or Saturday from 9.30am to 1pm. Organised by the Hurst Gymnastics Club this has over 30 stalls, raffle and children’s tombola.

NSPCC: The Hurstpierpoint, Hassocks and District committee of the NSPCC held their very popular Bridge afternoon at Danny recently and raised the fantastic amount of £881. It was a very enjoyable afternoon and a thank you very much goes to everyone who supported. Thanks also to the committee for producing such a delicious tea, and thank you very much to Richard Burrows for hosting this fundraising event at Danny.

RNLI Hurstpierpoint and District branch: are organising a fun and entertaining evening on Saturday 26 November. Dust off your dance shoes and enjoy The Dave Williams Swing Band. Tickets include a buffet supper and are available from Mishon Mackay in the High Street. Licensed bar, raffle and a Grand Auction.

ST LAWRENCE POP UP PUB: the ‘Lawrie’ for one night only, on Saturday 26 November from 7pm. There will be thai food, from The Purple Carrot Café, craft beer and lager from the local Dark Star and Bedlam breweries, prosecco and wines from the BBS Wines of Ditchling, all with live music from local talents and DJs. The aim is to add to the fundraising for the swimming pool to be made into a year round facility for the children and us local inhabitants. Tickets are £10 and available from St Lawrence School, Morleys wine Bar and Vanilla.

HURST CINEMA: for its Saturday Cinema at 3pm this month has Zootropolis (PG) a fast computer animated comedy from Disney, praised for its humour and themes, about an unlikely partnership between a rabbit police officer and a red fox con artist as they uncover a conspiracy.

Sunday Cinema screens Brooklyn (12a) an acclaimed story set in the 1950s, of an Irish girl leaving her home and family behind to start a new life in New York. At first difficult, she finds love only to be confronted with her past life pulling her back and choices to be made. Tickets for both from Mishon Mackay or phone 01273 835875.

AUTUMN WALKS: Why not get out and enjoy the autumn colour? Mid Sussex Ramblers organise many guided walks of different lengths, as an easy way to enjoy the countryside. Choose one in an unfamiliar area as an outing with a snack or liquid refreshment added on. Note that during the cold wet months they organise indoor meetings at the King Edward Hall Lindfield with a range of illustrated talks and social evenings in local pubs. SANTA’S FUN SUNDAY: which will take place on 4 December in a closed High Street between 1pm and 6pm, is the Traders and residents hosting a family event in the run up to Christmas, for shopping and festive fun. Gill Blackburn, chair of the Traders welcomes all offers of help, for stewards, first aiders, bakers for the charity cake stall, or from any other volunteers. Also those wanting to have their own street stall should contact her on 07748 630316 or pop in and see her at Ashley & Thomas. All proceeds on the day will go to Cancervive.
