CONCERT: by Soul Of The City Choir at Holy Trinity Church on Saturday 2 April, doors open at 7pm. Tickets at the door.

CAFÉ CHURCH: on Sunday 3 April at Hurstpierpoint Methodist Church, Cuckfield Road from 10.30 am to 11.30 am. Suitable for all ages, enjoy Coffee and Croissants followed by lively worship with modern songs and a Bible message relevant for today.

G&T@3: on the same day is a traditional half-hour service at Hurstpierpoint Methodist Church from 3.00 pm to 3.30 pm, with tea provided afterwards with time to chat.

VILLAGE CINEMA: Thursday 7 April Departures (12a) 7.30 for 8pm. Oscar for Best Foreign language Film in 2008 this film tells the story of a musician who returns to his hometown when his orchestra disbands. He takes a job preparing bodies for burial, and is too embarrassed to admit this to his family, keeping it secret, which sets up a difficult situation. A quiet but humorous film, of performance and music. Tickets for all the films from Mishon Mackay or the website.

RNLI QUIZ NIGHT: back by popular demand on Saturday 9 April in the Village Centre. Teams of up to six are invited to pit their wits against the Quiz Master John Wilkinson. Doors open at 7pm for 7.30pm start, and tickets cost £10 to include a ploughman’s supper, available from Mishon Mackay or the Pet Shop in the High Street. A cash bar will operate and there will be a raffle with some super prizes. A fun evening raising money for a good cause.

UPCOMING COFFEE MORNING: would be happy to collect donations for sale. The Friends of St Christopher’s Home for the Elderly in the village are organising their annual fundraiser for 9 April. If you are having a spring clean or clear out do contact Jo Kearns on 01273 834200 if you can donate items such as books, DVDs, CDS, plants, gifts or prizes for the tombola or raffle.

WEST GALLERY CONCERT: on Saturday 16 April showcases Lou Beckerman, jazz singer and instrumentalist, a local favourite. Tickets are just £5, and the concert starts early at 6pm and finishes by 7.30pm, allowing attendance at another Saturday evening event. Order tickets now in advance, from Margaret Carey, e-mail [email protected] and pay at the door. All profits go towards the costs of Holy Trinity Church.

SUNDAY CINEMA: Bridge of Spies (12a ) on Sunday 17 April at 3.30pm. Inspired by true events this is a dramatic Cold War thriller directed by Steven Spielberg starring Tom Hanks as a lawyer sent by the CIA on a difficult mission and Mark Rylance as a Russian agent.

MID SUSSEX RAMBLERS: have recently organised a circular walk from Hurstpierpoint, which you may not have been able to join. They do have a programme of varied walks to suit all ages and walking abilities. Usually they take place every Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday throughout the year even on Bank Holidays, and consist of half day walks of 3 to 6 miles, and for the more energetic all day walks of 9 to 10 miles. As Spring has arrived, some local walks may now be of interest, so look them up on their website www.midsussexramblers.co.uk. Those that relate to Hurst I will continue to put in the column.

HURST AFTERNOON CLUB: for next month on Tuesday 5 April at 2.15pm goes all melodious and tuneful. Belinda Sharpe is coming along to provide a musical entertainment. Refreshmants after and all welcome.
