Husband kicks wife

A FRUSTRATED husband threw his wife to the floor and kicked over a Christmas tree in a domestic row earlier this month.

Derek Deeprose, of Wickham Avenue, left his wife with a bump on the head after an argument on the evening of December 6. A court heard he had become angry after accusing her of being unfaithful.

Hastings magistrates called for a pre-sentence report on the 43-year-old to be prepared before sentencing on January 10.

Deeprose was released on bail on condition he does not contact his wife.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of assault by beating on his appearance last Tuesday last week.

Angela Durand, defending, claimed Deeprose had gone out that evening to play darts, and had become angry when his wife would not answer questions on his return.

He then kicked out at the Christmas tree and pushed her when she came towards him.

She said: "He admitted to being reckless but said he didn't mean to hurt her. The Christmas tree was all over the place, and it may be that when she went backwards she tripped over it."

She stated Deeprose had maintained contact with the couple's four children by mutual agreement, and he was hopeful the pair could salvage their 12-year relationship.

She said: "He very much regrets being in court over this."
