Sue Waghorn, who was with her husband Phillip, was the landmark visitor.

The couple, who are visiting the city from Greenwich as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations, were on the 11am pod ‘flight’.

They were met by general manager Ian Hart who presented them with prizes that included BA flights to a European destination of their choice and a meal at the i360's restaurant West Beach Bar & Kitchen.

Sue said: “I am over the moon to be the one millionth guest on British Airways i360. We’ve had a fantastic time here today and can’t believe we’ve won all these amazing prizes.

“It’s a beautiful attraction and something you must do if you’re visiting Brighton."

British Airways i360 opened in August 2016 and was designed by Marks Barfield Architects, creators of the London Eye.

General manager Ian Hart added: “Welcoming our one millionth guest today is a meaningful landmark and a huge achievement for our team."
