Lewes Town Council has agreed to support financially two new ventures for the town’s Late Night Christmas Shopping event this year.

Working with the support and co-operation of Sussex Archaeological Society and Lewes Chamber of Commerce, it will present an artificial ice skating rink for four days in Lewes Castle’s Gun Garden from Thursday, December 5, through to Sunday, December 8.

In addition, ‘Patina’ has been commissioned to provide two workshops for children to create paper lanterns for a Christmas lantern parade, which will process through the town on the Thursday evening.

Cllr Amanda Dean led the campaign.

She said: “We are delighted that everyone has agreed to back these new and exciting activities.

“They are designed to help local shopkeepers through these difficult times and at the same time give local children and their parents an opportunity to enjoy themselves.”

“There will be a prize for shopkeepers who display the most interesting lantern.”
