CHURCH NEWS: The 9.30 am service on Sunday, the fifth in Lent,known as Passion Sunday, will be led by Rev. Malcolm Pickering. This will be a Eucharistic service. On 9th April, the choirs of Icklesham and Winchelsea, plus a few more friends, will present a Devotion for congregation, and choir, presenting readings, hymns and anthems for the beginning of Holy Week. This will be at 6 pm in Icklesham Church.

EASTER LILIES: A thank you to all those who have already donated an Easter Lily in memory of a loved one. If you would like a lily, this is the last week in which we can take names for them to be included on the list of loved ones, which is on view, with the lilies, from Easter Sunday. Envelopes are in the Memorial Hall and at the back of the church. If you already have one please return it this week.

LENT LUNCH: Last week the lunch was in aid of the Royal British Legion and raised in excess of £100. Thank you. There is another Lunch today from 12.30 pm. There will be home made soup and a selection of cheeses, tea or coffee.

WEATHER: Fine, sunny and warm today, Monday. The cold east wind from the week-end has dropped and it is a flowery view from my windows. The willow trees are all green with their tiny new leaves. Other trees are definitely on the move in the leaf department. I have an un-named tree which is about to burst forth into lovely, white blossom, long before the leaves. But pot grown plants are needing watering. In March ?!!

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music played on Sunday from 4 pm will be performed by - I don’t know !!!! Perhaps you will have to go along and find out !

SONGBIRDS: The Icklesham Songbirds will now meet every other week at Five Villages House at 2 pm. It is not a large group which would like to welcome some new members. All the songs are well known and enjoyable. Could this be for you ? Sharon Sellens, who runs the Songbirds, has told me that she is singing in the Beatles Day on Sunday 2nd April at 1.20 pm in the White Rock. This is her first time, so a Beatles Day debut and she is very excited about it. She is hoping for lots of support, and for Macmillan.

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY SPRING SHOW: The Memorial Hall will be awash with colour and perfume on Saturday - tomorrow. The Spring Show opens to the public at 2 pm. There will be flowers, cookery classes and a special class for home-made compost. This class is kindly sponsored by Kate and Syd Mylrea. There will be teas, tombola, a raffle and beauty to behold. There is plenty of free parking.

SCHOOL NEWS: I thoroughly enjoyed the Concert presented by the children at the school. They performed beautifully, their own songs were impressive and their behaviour was impeccable. This was showcasing the work that the children have been doing this term following visits from musicians Frank and Bev, singing teacher Mrs. Fletcher and poet Mr. Peeks. The singing was followed by a performance of a composition from the Icklesham Family Orchestra. The school would love to continue to provide these experiences and this is reliant on support from the Friends PTFA and donations for funding. Congratulations to Jolie Mintrim, who came first in her race, and her sister Lara who came second in the Yr. 6 girls’ race, in the Cross Country event. The cake sale had already raised £75 for Red Nose day, with more to come. The Head Teacher Awards this week go to : Starfish Class, Gabriel for being a kind friend to others; Stingray Class, Paige for setting a good example all around the school; Dolphin Class, Edward for being a super school spirit; and Octopus Class, Lara for being a good role model and challenging herself. Well done everyone. The children and staff will be enjoying a well-earned break next week, returning on 18th April for Term 5.
