CHURCH NEWS: The 9.30 am service will be Parish Eucharist for the 4th Sunday of Advent, led by Rev. Malcolm Pickering. At 4 pm there will be the Carol Service, so do come along to that. On Monday, all the children from the school will be coming to church for their Carol Service. Wednesday is the remembrance of Thomas the Apostle.

WEATHER: Mixed might be one way of describing it ! Yesterday was a glorious winter day with clear blue skies and light breezes. Today id grey and gloomy, not Christmassy at all. Wednesday 21st is the Winter Solstice, when the overhead sun is as far away as possible, to the south of us, giving us the shortest day and longest night of the year. Sunrise next week end will be at 7.59 and sunset will be at 15.55. Possibly good hibernating time?

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music at 4 pm on Sunday will be Top of the Pops played by the Pete Prescott Band. There will be a Quiz Night in aid of Macmillan beginning at 8.30 pm.on Wednesday 21st.

STUART’S STUFF

QUIZ NIGHT: Last Saturday’s Quiz Night raised funds for Icklesham Toddlers and Icklesham Youth Club. £330 was raised, to be split 50/50. In addition to this, a game of Heads and Tails raised £100 for the Childhood Tumour trust named Neurofibromatosis. They say that its name is harder to pronounce even than it is to live with !! Thanks to Rye Auctions for helping to boost this total. Casualties Reserves were the comfortable winners of the Quiz, followed by four teams who were joint second. One Out All Out, High Fords Hooligans, Nobby’s Nuts and Team Name. Next were Fab 5, Casualties and Toddlers. Thanks to everyone who supported, Alan and John for help setting up, Sean with help during the evening, those who donated Raffle prizes and bought tickets. The next Quiz will be on 7th January. We have a Murder Mystery on 21st January. That costs £10 per person which does include a Ploughman’s Supper. If you are interested in either of these, please let Stuart know.

ICKLESHAM NEW PAVILION PROJECT LOTTERY DRAW: The draw was made at the Quiz Night by Marc Baker. The winners were :1st,£50 Mary Taylor; 2nd, £25 Will Brand; 3rd, £20, Lisa Rendle; 4th, Ladies Darts Team; 5th, £10 Mark Taylor; and 6th, £5 Jeanette Reed.Thanks to all those who supported this fundraiser. New members are always welcome to join. It costs £1 per month. Why not make a New Year Resolution to join this Community Fundraiser.?

FUNDRAISING UPDATE: In October £351.50 was raised at the Quiz Night for our Church. Today they have donated 50%back to the Pavilion Fund, £157.75. In November the Darts Ladies hosted the quiz which raised £300. They also have donated 50% of the total to the Pavilion Fund, £150. Thanks to both these organisations for their generosity and support. In addition to the excellent recent fundraising mentioned, there is a further £1,112 to be passed on to the Trust treasurer. This is made up of the profit and prize donations from recent lottery draws, the Race Night, sponsorship from the Bolton Ironman Triathlon completed by Mike Beaumont and the money raised from the Euro 2016 competition. Merry Christmas to all of our supporters and their families.

CHRISTMAS CLEAR UP: Last Saturday morning Nick Warren, Tony Thorn, Ben Godfrey, Martin Tytherleigh and Stuart Baker had a blitz on removing the rubbish from inside the Pavilion and had a good general tidy up inside.

TRUST COMMITTEE: Tonight, Friday 16th, is the Trust Committee’s Annual General Meeting in the Memorial Hall, 7 pm for a 7.30 pm start. There will be nibbles provided from 7 pm. If you have an interest in the Annual Fete, New Pavilion or even joining the Trust as a Village representative, this is your opportunity to have your say. Many thanks, Stuart.

CONCERT: On Saturday 17th December at 7.30 pm, there will be a concert hosted by Winchelsea Arts. This is a very special concert in memory of Tom Harris whose life was tragically ended in December 2015. The recital will be given by Cristina Ortiz who has played in most of the concert halls of the world. She will play piano music by Schubert, Brahms, York Bowen and Chopin. The concert is in Winchelsea Church and tickets costing £20 are available from Winchelsea Farm Kitchen. Not only will this be a splendid musical feast, it is a tribute to a dear friend who was an exceptional pianist himself.
