CHURCH NEWS: The 9.30 am service this week will be Parish Eucharist, led by Rev. Iain Morrison. This is for the seventh Sunday after Trinity. It is Sea Sunday, when prayers are offered for those who make their living from the sea. Monday 11th is St. Benedict’s Day, the Patron Saint of Europe. Friday next week is a difficult day - it is St. Swithin’s Day. On that day in 971, his relics were transferred from outside Winchester Cathedral to inside, in contravention of his wishes. The occasion was marked by persistent rain which continued until St. Bartholomew’s Day - 24th August.. This has given rise to the saying that if it rains on St. Swithin’s Day, it will rain for the next 40 days.!!

CHURCH MARKET: The next Market will be on 16th July from 11 am - 2 pm, although if you are going for lunch (scrumptious) don’t leave it too late because they sell out. There will also be produce like cakes, marmalade and pies for sale. (Please save me some Eccles cakes!)

CRAFT FAIR: TODAY As a bit of an experiment, the Craft Fair is being held in the Memorial Hall today, FRIDAY, from 4 - 7 pm. There will be lovely hand made goods, all prepared by local people who are extremely talented. Do come along and see what they have to offer. Funds go to the Pavilion and Hall.

WEATHER: Lovely today, but I gather that the jet stream is lying low again, i.e. to the south of where it should be at this time of year. When it does shine, the sun is hot, so maybe some sun cream is necessary.

FLOWER CLUB: The Flower Club meets on Tuesday 12th July at 2.15 pm in the Memorial Hall. It costs £1. Bring flowers and foliage or just come and have a cup of tea and see if you would like to join.

FETE AND FLOWER SHOW: Just a reminder that this takes place on Saturday 6th August 1 - 4 pm. Is it in your diary? Details soon.

RACE NIGHT: An Icklesham themed Race Night is planned for Friday 15th July with 7.30 pm start. This is in aid of the New Pavilion Fund and the Robin Hood Bonfire Society. Horses are available to purchase now. £2 each with the winning owner receiving £10, or £5 each with £20 going to the winning owner. If you are unable to attend you can still support the fundraising by owning a horse. Please email [email protected] or you could sponsor a race at a cost of £20. Come to the Memorial Hall, bring the family and your own drinks.

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music on Sunday will be played by Stone Junction, playing Americana from 4 - 6 pm.

IAN’S BIKE RIDE: Ian is taking part in the Prudential Ride London Surrey 100. There is an early staggered start, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Care. You can donate at the Queen’s Head or the Royal Oak in Pett. Could YOU ride 100 miles? No? Well then, how about sponsoring Ian?

SCHOOL NEWS: What a wonderful week they all had last week. First the Fayre, which raised a fantastic amount of £1,119.07. Some of this money will go towards the cost of coaches and tickets for the pantomime in December. HUGE thanks to everyone who supported, helped and gave prizes.The AGM will be held from 4 pm at the Robin Hood. Jane Gillard is standing down as Chair and also the secretary. If you feel that either job is for you, please be sure to be there. Jane gives her personal thanks to all Mums, Dads and Grandparents for all their help and support. The Year 5 “Fiver Challenge” ran their first stall. The boys raised £71. 25% will go to charity, the rest to be invested in their next business scheme. The girls raised £36 . Well done all. And then there was Sports day in wonderful weather. There was a tie for first place between Oast House and Orchard House with 198 points each. And also the Swimming Gala, which Oast House won with 237 points. AND the tag Rugby Team WON the trophy. Noah and Lily, the Learning Ambassadors have been to the Houses of Parliament.

The Head Teacher’s awards this week go to Caterpillars,Christie; Spiders, Leo; Dragonflies, Dylan and Bees, Jake. The Class awards are as follows :Caterpillars, Finley, Fynn and Annie; Spiders, Lily-Rose H. and Edie; Dragonflies, Sophie and Edward; Bees, Josh R. and all the tag Rugby Teams - Cole, Zac, Ollie, Billy, Isabella, Amber, Jacob, Harry, Samuel, Raven, Gracie, Isobel, Jake, William, Marnie and Josh. Well done everybody.The Bees Class Play is on 13 & 14 July at 6 pm.
