Icklesham

GREETINGS: The first edition of this week's Voice was written early on Monday morning. The rain was lashing on the window and the trees were thrashing in the wind. And Monday was the longest day of the year when the sun was overhead at the tropic, as near to overhead as we get it .So much for the Summer Solstice. Then something upset my computer and it ate everything I had written, just when I had finished too. Life is not very fair sometimes !! But it is downhill all the way to Christmas now, with shortening days.!! Thought you'd like that.!!!!

CHURCH NEWS: The 9.30am service on Sunday will be Parish Eucharist led by Rev. Canon Robin Whitehead. This is for the fifth Sunday after Trinity. On Wednesday 29th we remember Peter and Paul, Apostles. On 1st July we commemorate the first day of the Battle of the Somme, the most catastrophic day’s fighting in the history of the British Army. Almost no ground was gained. There will be a memorial service in Alexandra Park at the Memorial at 7.15 am on that day.

CHURCH MARKET: A very successful event and lovely to find friends to chat to. Lovely lunches and goodies to buy. Many thanks to those who worked so hard to make it so friendly.

FIVE VILLAGES: There will be a bric-a-brac sale at Five Villages House on Saturday 25th June - TOMORROW, from 10am to 12 noon. PARISH COUNCIL: Here are some salient points from the council. New play equipment is to be installed at Rye Harbour and Winchelsea Beach including a new Zipwire. Allotment holders are to receive notice that from October the renewal date for tenancy will switch to March 2018. There will also be new “Starter plots” which will be about half the size of a standard plot for people who feel that they may not be able to cope with a full plot. If you are interested please apply to the Parish Clerk. There is a website where you can report any perceived planning infringements. The clerk is able to help with completing the document. The Council has given permission for Icklesham Trust to put hard plastic mesh into the grass between the car park and the Memorial Hall patio. Your councillors are here to represent you and welcome your views. Contact the Clerk at [email protected] or write to Wildgoose Cottage, Gorsethorn Way, Fairlight, East Sussex, TN 35 4 BQ.

REFERENDUM: By the time you read this, we will all know the result. It will not affect my generation too much, but I feel very strongly that my children and grandchildren will have to live with our decision. Because of that I really feel that the 16 - 17 year olds SHOULD have been given a vote, as they were in Scotland.
