CHURCH NEWS: The 9.30 am service of Parish Eucharist will be led by Rev. Canon Robin Whitehead. This is the second Sunday after Trinity. This Sunday is also World Environment Day, which was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972. Next Friday is the birthday of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, born in 1921.

WEATHER: When the sun does manage to shine, it is hot. Then the clouds roll in and the easterly winds take over again. The evenings are still cool. No chance of sitting out in the balmy evenings yet. The roses got ahead of themselves and lots were flowering in May this year. Do look out for some near you.

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music this Sunday, 5th June will be played by the Pete Prescott Band playing Covers from 4 - 6 pm. Food is served each Sunday from 12 - 9.30 pm. Other days it is available 12 - 2.30 pm and 6 - 9.30 pm. Booking is advisable.

NEW PAVILION LOTTERY DRAW: On Monday evening at the Five Villages House, Derrick Baker, local resident and former chairman of the Trust Committee presented Stuart Baker - no re...lation - with a further donation of £1,000 for the New Pavilion Fund. This was raised from the sale of Derrick’s delicious pastries, pies and cakes and the donation was in memory of his late wife Joan who died four years ago on Monday. Derrick has previously donated £1,000 and all those involved with the New Pavilion Project cannot thank Derrick and his family enough for this amazing generosity. The New Pavilion Lottery Draw for May was made by Derrick’s granddaughters Ellie and Connie. Thanks to the support of the residents of the Five Villages House with ten new members joining the Lottery on the night, we were able to increase the 3rd prize to £20. A big thankyou to all those new members. The winners for May were ;1st, £50, Martin Tytherleigh; 2nd, £25, Maria Greenwood; 3rd, £20, Fred Ferryman; 4th, £10, Ian McLean; 5th, £5, Sean Baker; 6th, £5, Robin Hood Bonfire Society (Auction). The Lottery now has nearly 250 members. New members are always welcome to join. The cost is just £1 per month so if you wish to show your support for the New Pavilion please email [email protected] or [email protected] for an application form. Thanks to everyone at the Five Villages House for their hospitality. It was much appreciated.

SCHOOL NEWS: The children and staff are on the mid-term break. Children return on Tuesday 7th June. Stuart Baker recently had a good meeting with Mrs. Robinson, Headteacher of Icklesham School. She was pleased to hear that there is full baking of Icklesham Parish Council and Icklesham Trust to move forward with the New Pavilion Village Project. There is enthusiasm from the school about sport. There are some promising cricketers, footballers and netballers. They in turn are well supported by their Parent Teachers Association and the School Governors.

The meeting concluded with Mrs Robinson, on behalf of the school, giving her full backing to the Project. Thanks to Mrs Haddock for arranging the meeting, it was all much appreciated.

CONCERT: There will be a concert in Winchelsea Church on Saturday 4th June at 7.30 pm, when the Occasional Concert will perform a programme entitled Sing Joyfully. The music will include “For St. Cecilia” by Finzi;” Hail Bright Cecilia “ by Henry Purcell and other British composers. Tickets are £10 on the door and include a complimentary glass of wine. The choir is led by Anne Whiteman and accompanied by Shirley Carey.
