CHURCH NEWS: This coming Sunday is Trinity Sunday, the first Sunday after Pentecost (Whit Sunday) The 9.30 am service will be Parish Eucharist led by Rev. Canon Robin Whitehead. Thursday is Corpus Christi - the Body of Christ - affirming a real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. In Roman Catholic countries it is a major festival, often a holiday, with processions and services of celebration. On Tuesday we remember John and Charles Wesley who were Evangelists and hymn writers. During the week we commemorate the Veneral Bede who was a monk at Jarrow, a scholar and a historian in the 8th century.

CONFIRMATION SERVICE: On Thursday 26th may at 7.30 pm in Winchelsea Church there will be a Deanery Confirmation Service conducted by the Bishop of Chichester, the Rev. Martin Warner. It is a great privilege to have our Bishop come the “The Far East” of the diocese.

CHURCH MARKET: The next Market is TOMORROW from 11 am until 2 pm. There will be the popular cake stall plus a plant stall which this month will have some bedding plants, runner beans and courgette plants. Donations to these stalls are very much appreciated. There will also be a book stall but only for paper back fiction books. Again, donations appreciated. The new lunch menu went down very well last month and should be even better tomorrow. So come and give it a try. The move to the Memorial Hall seems popular, so come along for tea, coffee, cake and a chat, and stay for lunch.

WEATHER: The sun is shining today after a cooler weekend. Aren’t people’s gardens looking lovely? Most of the daffodils are over now, but so much else is coming into flower. My roses are showing lots of big fat flower buds. May blossom is now appearing in the hedgerows. There are some nice plants available at the re-opened Farm Shop on the main road, and their cakes are good too. Buy tomorrow at the Market, but in coming days, it might be worth while popping in to the Farm Shop.

ART SHOW: The Icklesham Art Exhibition was held in the Memorial Hall last weekend, organised by the Icklesham Art Group. The pictures on display were painted by members of the Group. Approximately £1,000 worth of paintings were sold, which was very pleasing for the organisers. The Hall was beautifully decorated with floral arrangements by Janette Ireland, a member of the Icklesham Flower Club. The ladies in the kitchen worked very hard, providing teas, coffees, Ploughman’s Lunches and cakes. The New Pavilion Project benefited from the profit of the Tombola and a 10% donation from each painting sold, which raised £202.25. Over the weekend a total of £1,350 was raised.

The Art Group would like to thank everybody who donated items for sale in the kitchen, prizes for the tombola and special thanks to those who came to the exhibition. The New Pavilion Project Committee would like to thank the Art Group for their much appreciated, continued support.

ART GROUP: The Art group meets every Tuesday between 10am and 12 noon. Tea and coffee are available. It costs £2 per session and new members are always welcome to join in.

FLOWER CLUB: This group meets every 4th Tuesday between 2 and 4 pm. Again, new members are always welcome. The price per session is £1.20 and you are asked to bring your own flowers and foliage. The next meeting is on 14th June and the topic is “Out and About.”

I am assuming that both these groups meet in the Memorial Hall.

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music this Sunday will be played by Pete Prescott and Rog Carey, whose music is described as “cool.” The Mini Micro Beer Festival runs from Friday 27th May to Monday 30th May. You will find beer, live music and food on all days. On the Friday Louis and Roger will play earthy Blues from 9 - 11 pm. On Saturday, Simon Shaw and Logan Wilson will play Acoustic Covers from 4 - 6 pm. On Sunday Loz Netto will play Jazz Rock from 4 - 6 pm. And on Bank Holiday Monday Alamo will play Golden Oldies from 4 - 6 pm.

A FREE SERVICE FOR ALL ICKLESHAM RESIDENTS: East Sussex Hearing Resource Centre is a registered charity working in partnership with Adult Social Care to provide a no-charge mobile information and advice service for the deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people living in East Sussex. The vehicle is equipped to offer demonstrations of assistive equipment and hearing screening tests. The mobile unit will be visiting Icklesham on Thursday 23rd June and will be outside Five Villages House from 1.30 - 3.30 pm. The bus is accessible to wheelchair users and representatives from both the East Sussex Hearing Resource Centre and Adult Social Care will be available to provide individual information and advice on all aspects of hearing loss. A CONCERT: There will be the last of the Winchelsea Arts Concerts for this season on Friday 20th May at 7.30 pm in Winchelsea Church. A programme of music by Schubert, Brahms, Massenet, Franck, Debussy, Duparc and A. Previn will be presented by soprano Erica Eloff, cellist Bjorn Bantock and pianist Mark Nixon. The next season is planned and will begin in the autumn.

SCHOOL NEWS: All Year 6 children have coped magnificently with the SATS tests last week. They approached the test with confidence. This week the children have been wearing blue clothes and donating £1 to raise money for a condition called Neurofibromatosos. Many idea have been forthcoming for the Summer Fayre to be held on Saturday 25th June 11 - 2.30 pm. If you are able to help contact [email protected] to offer your support. Anew heater has been installed at the swimming pool and initial preparations have been made to prepare the pool. The Head Teacher Awards this week go to Caterpillars, Poppy; Spiders, Millie; Dragonflies, Jolie and Bees, Tommy. The Class awards are as follows: Caterpillars, Harrison and Christie; Spiders, Mabel and Xanthe; Dragonflies, Sophie and Kyle; and Bees, all Year 6 children for an amazing SATS week and Year 5, helping with Caterpillar Class.
