CHURCH NEWS: The 10.30 am service next Sunday morning will be a Eucharistic service led by Rev. Canon Robin Whitehead, for the second Sunday of Advent. Last Sunday, there was an Advent Carol Service with members of the combined choirs of Icklesham and Winchelsea leading the singing. The acoustic is lovely in the church, so it all sounded bright and lively and was well received by a large congregation. There don’t seem to be saints’ days this week, but John Milton, author of Paradise lost was born on 9th December in 1608.

ICKLESHAM TRUST COMMITTEE AGM: This meeting will be held on Tuesday 8th December in the Memorial Hall. You are welcome to join the committee for a glass of wine or juice and nibbles at 7 pm with the meeting starting at 7.30 pm There are vacancies for a new Chairman, Secretary, and Hall Booking Clerk. All roles are a good way of getting involved with village life. In the last year the committee met approximately six times. As well as the posts already mentioned, there are up to three village reps and a representative from each of the village organisations. Since the notice last week, I hope many people have had a good think and are willing to stand for the committee. But do attend the meeting anyway if at all possible.

CRAFT FAIR: This will take place in the Memorial Hall on Saturday 5th December - TOMORROW -from 10am until 2.30 pm. Lots of locally made crafts on sale, as well as a Christmas Tombola, the proceeds of which will go to St. Michael’s Hospice. Thanks to all stall holders and anyone else who has donated prizes. It is hoped that some of the Friends of Icklesham School will be joining in with face painting and some carol singing, always providing that their children are all well! They will also be selling raffle tickets for the school Christmas Fair. Please come along to support them. This will be the last craft fair until Easter. Thank you to every one who has supported the clever craft makers, it is much appreciated. There is plenty of free parking and everyone is welcome.

WEATHER: There was one very frosty morning, but the wind has gone round to the west again, so we are back to www again. There is standing water in part of my garden deep enough for the blackbirds to have a bath.

THE ROBIN HOOD INN: The Christmas plans look very interesting. A pre- Christmas lunch of 2 courses is from £9.95 per person, or 3 courses from £11. 95. A pre-Christmas dinner is £18.95 per person. On Sunday 6th December they present the luxury afternoon tea including an afternoon of entertainment with Mr. Steve Sinatra. £14. 95 per person wearing smart dress. There will also be a Christmas Carol afternoon tea at 5.30 pm on Sunday 20th December with Yvonne Bellhouse playing Christmas music. £9.95 per person, smart dress or Christmas costumes.

There are more events happening which I will mention later in the month.

SCHOOL NEWS: The Diocese Church Schools Inspection in school last week graded the school as OUTSTANDING. This is really fantastic news and a copy of the report has been sent to all parents and carers.The Christmas Fayre will be on Friday 11th December from 3 - 4.45 pm. On Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th December the children will be singing carols outside Icklesham Stores between 11 am and 12 noon. Everyone is welcome to come and join in. Any local artist, photographer or craft or cake maker who might be willing to donate to the Silent Auction, or if you have any good quality items at home, please let Jane know by emailing [email protected] or leaving a message at school. Congratulations to Mrs. Georgie Scott who has been elected as the new Parent Governor. The Headteacher Award this week goes to Holly in Caterpillars; Fredy in Spiders; Charlotte in Dragonflies and Amelie in Bees. The Class awards go to Poppy and Liam in Caterpillars; Ruby-Jude and Mei in Spiders; Sophie and Eve in Dragonflies and Billy and Lara in Bees. Spider and Bees won the attendance award.
