GREETINGS: I do hope this month of June will be fine for you. My Father always called it “Flaming June.” Depending on the weather it could mean that it was lovely and hot with plenty of flowers, or, if it was being a bit inclement, alter the intonation and you could express your disgust.

CHURCH SERVICES: The service at 10.30 am this Sunday will be Parish Eucharist for the first Sunday of Trinity.

CHURCH MARKET: Please make a note in your diary that the Church Market will be a week earlier than usual because of the Flower Festival and Art Exhibition in July. So the Market will be on Saturday 13th June from 11 am to 2 pm. There is work going on inside the church building so the Market is moving to the Memorial Hall for this month. There will be lots of plants again, plus the cake and produce stall. Donations for both of these are always very much appreciated. If it happens to be a lovely day, coffee and lunch may even be served outside. NB the change of both date and venue.

CRAFT FAIR: Tomorrow, Saturday 6th June, there will be the next Craft Fair in the Memorial Hall from 10 am until 2 - 2.30 pm. There will be a mix of crafts for sale, all of excellent quality, and some made locally. You will be guaranteed a warm welcome and, as usual, there will be delicious home made cakes to have with your tea or coffee. This will be the last Craft Fair until the Autumn, although we will be having craft stalls at the Fete and Flower Show on 1st August. You may care to note that date NOW. Plenty of free parking next to the children’s play park.

HALL BOOKINGS: For the time being, please contact Sandra Stunt on 01424 814 401 for all bookings. If anyone is interested in taking over this role, let Sandra know. It could be combined with a caretaking role, and might well suit a couple. Dexter and Karen at the Village Shop have kindly agreed to hold a Hall key.

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music on Sunday 7th June, from 4 - 6 pm. will be played by Bagge and Armer, playing Blues.

ROBIN HOOD BONFIRE SOCIETY: The Icklesham “Village Elders” enjoyed a fine shindig on Saturday 16th May. More than 50 local senior citizens attended the annual party, jointly arranged by the Robin Hood Bonfire Society and the Robin Hood Public House. The guests enjoyed a fine feast, with a wonderful choice of chocolate gateaux, strawberry shortcake or lemon meringue for dessert, all washed down with various alcoholic beverages. Even better - it was all for free !! Members of the Robin Hood Bonfire Society, dressed in their best, waited at tables, refilled glasses and enjoyed the company of the guests. Meanwhile, the Robin Hood landlady, Sue Darcy, slaved in the kitchen to dish up a veritable feast, ably supported by a small army of volunteers who washed up, dished up and fell into an exhausted pile at the close of the day. Throughout, the guests were entertained by the musical duo, The Bling Crosbies and, after the food had gone, - not to mention much of the alcohol - many guests got to their feet to dance the afternoon away. Sadly, the day had to end at last but everyone had great fun and vowed to return next year. The next event to be held by the RHBS at the Robin Hood pub is the Gary Grainger Quiz at 7.30 pm on 16th June, to raise funds for St. Michael’s Hospice and the Sarah Lee Trust. The £5 per person entry fee includes a fish and chip supper. Teams of up to six persons can book a table on 01424 814 277.

WEATHER: Apparently May was much wetter than average, and the rain last week was very welcome. The winds and sunshine had dried the ground to cracking status. Our clay “soil” reacts very quickly, doesn’t it? First it is too wet to do any work and before we know it, a concrete like consistency has appeared. Probably I am keeping the suppliers in business with the amount of compost I seem to need . My own compost bins can’t keep up. Incidentally, would anyone like another bin? I seem to have four, which is too many.

SCHOOL NEWS: The children have been on holiday last week so no news. Keep the Summer Fayre in your minds on 27th June from 11 am until 2.30 pm.
