GREETINGS: In a sort of way, I am quite pleased that Bank Holidays are a thing of the past until August, when we shall be very glad to have an extra day for relaxation. But I hope that you enjoyed the one just gone by.

CHURCH SERVICES: There will be a service at 10.30 am on Sunday morning, which will be Parish Eucharist for Trinity Sunday. The disciples have received the gift of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday, and now are empowered to go out and preach the Trinity to anyone who will listen.

PREVIOUS CORRESPONDENT: It was a great pleasure to meet Mr. Laurie Bowman out walking the dog last week. His health is improving slowly and he feels much better now. Good news indeed.

WEATHER: So May has been wetter than usual. April was drier than usual. Therefore is the average about right? It does seem a little bit of a nuisance to have to be watering pots and plants already. The winds have been lighter this week anyway. Tadpoles anyone?

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music on Sunday, from 4 - 6 pm will be played by Mick Mepham, who plays “rock on” music. On Wednesday 3 June there will be a Quiz in aid of St. Michael’s Hospice, beginning at 8.30 pm.

SUMMER CRAFT FAIR: The Fair will take place on Saturday 6th June in the Memorial Hall form 10an until 2 - 2.30pm. There will be a mix of crafts on sale, all of really good quality, some made locally. You will be guaranteed a warm welcome, and as usual there will be delicious home made cakes to have with your tea or coffee. This will be the last Craft Fair until the Autumn, although we will be having craft stalls at the Fete and Flower Show on 1st August. Plenty of free parking next to the children’s play park. UDIMORE GARDEN SAFARI: On Saturday 30th May - TOMORROW - seven beautiful gardens will be open in Udimore for the public to visit between 1.30 and 5.30 pm. This is the village’s first Garden Safari. You can collect tickets, £6 children free, at the Community Hall near the church. Tea, cakes and plants will be available there too. There will be more plants at Beauchamps. This is fund raising for St. Mary’s Church.

MANOR FARM OAST: Kate Mylrea writes :”It’s that time of year again when I look to you and your generosity supporting our Charity effort. Again we will be raising funds for Breast Cancer Care, as you know, a charity very close to me. This year we will have a Traditional Strawberry Tea with sandwiches, scones, jam and cream, little cakes, strawberries and as much tea and coffee as you can drink. The tickets are £8. Hopefully we shall serve it in the garden, but if the weather is inclement, plan B will be in the house. DATE? Sunday 21st June from 3 - 5pm. A week later, 28th June from noon until 3 pm.there will be the annual Garden Party with plants for sale, live music from Ricochet, a treasure hunt, raffle and a ploughman’s lunch with ham/cheese or pate and a glass of wine or a soft drink. KATE’’S CHALLENGE: As you know I always have to have a challenge !! And this year is no different. I have already completed a Firewalk. that’s right, 20 feet of blazing coals in my bare feet (!?) and will be taking part in the Race for Life again.

SCHOOL NEWS: The Head Teacher Award this week goes to Rye, Billy C. and Marlon for the representation at the K’nex competition and also all the members of the Tag Rugby teams, winning 6 out of 7 games. They have been invited to represent small schools at the Brighton Festival on 1st June. The class awards go to Lily,Oliver, all year 2s and Miss Pembury, Iona, Miss Markides, Holly and Hatty. There have been special Sports Awards too for Leon, Oliver, Georgina and Jasmin. Holly received an award for outstanding sports skills in Tag Rugby. Please take note that the gate outside Owls and Magpies class will be locked until 3.15 pm and it will be opened when the children are dismissed. Plans are moving ahead for the Summer Fayre on Saturday 27th June from 11 am until 2.30 pm. Children taking part in the Logo Competition need to get their entries in to school by Monday 15th June. Garden designs should be brought into school on Monday 22nd June. Judging will take place during the week and the winners of both competition will be announced at the Summer Fayre. Monday 1st June is an Inset day and children return after the break, on 2nd June.

AND FINALLY: Enjoy the coming week It is only three weeks until 21st June, which is the Summer Solstice - the longest day is that day. Therefore it follows that the nights begin to draw in from that date until Christmas !!!
