Baptisms: Sunday 17 August 10.30 in All Saints with St Nicolas Parish Church Family Communion and Baptism. The Baptism of Poppy-Jayne McIver, daughter of Marcus David McIver and Molly Louise Dutton, is taking place. The Godparents are Erin May Fregurson, Kayly Louise Sutton and Niall Aiden Hunneman.Molly was baptised in All saints in 1994 and her parents , Jayne Boakes and Michael Dutton lived at Luxford, Hog Hill. July Lottery: The New Pavilion lottery draw for July was made at the Fete by Tracey Young. 1st prize £40 Dave Coombes. 2nd prize £20 Steve Beale. 3rd prize £15 Scott Ashby. 4th prize £10 Michael Hambridge. 5th prize £5 Nick Warren.

The Robin Hood: The pub looks great with a new inn sign,flower baskets and bright walls plus a splendid new play area.

Robin Hood Repents: Tom Firth, Icklesham’s Archery expert writes -“Throughout the centuries of the Middle Ages, legend has it that Robin Hood robbed the “rich” to give to the “poor”. The church being “rich” and the villagers “poor”. Until Henry VIII seized the monasteries the church was far richer than the monarchy. Now in the 21st century Robin has repented and is now robbing the “poor” and giving to the “rich” under the guise of giving 2 hour archery lessons for only £10, So far those who went to Icklesham Fete have been robbed of £91 and Robin has given these proceeds to help the new pavilion, Now that sufficient money has been raised for the Church Tower restoration fund, a new target is being aimed at - to raise another £1000 to enable the 19th century clock to be wound electronically. After that then all monies purloined will be put towards forming an Archery Club in the village. Icklesham has a Robin Hood pub and a Robin Hood Bonfire Society. Legend has it that in 1216 Robin Hood helped King John repel a French invasion led by King Louis just down the coast at Dungeness (according to Russell Crowe’s film Robin Hood). Obviously Robin must have stayed at the local Inn and therefore the Inn changed its name to honour its new hero from Barndale in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Therefore how significant will it be to have a Robin Hood Archery Club on the very same spot where he stayed in 1216? I am prepared to provide the funds for the necessary equipment to set up the Club and eventually I will expect the Club to repay me through profits earned. Everyone can help by coming and letting me teach them to shoot at The White Cottage, Main Road. Art Show & Sale: August 23,24 & 25 - Bank Holiday-10am -4pm Icklesham Memorial Hall. The work of the local art group will be on show and on sale. Admission free, refreshments and a raffle in id of the new pavilion. Members will be there if you like a chat. For further information contact Eric Butler 01424 814869.

Street Games: Throughout August professionally organised activities for our youngsters are backed by Icklesham Parish Council. They are on Icklesham Recreation Ground every Tuesday 6-8pm and Winchelsea Beach Recreation Ground on Thursdays 4.30 - 6.30pm. They are free to all young people living or staying in the Parish who can attend either or both. Children under 8 have to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Scarecrow Fortnight: Make a Scarecrow. It’s either a superhero or a villain (famous or invented), your scarecrow has to be displayed to the public from 30 August to 14 September, Get an entry form for free from the Village Shop. You are given an entry number. You need this so your scarecrow can be voted for which could win you a cash prize - £10 Best Superhero. £10 Best Villain. You can also show photos of your scarecrow on the Icklesham Facebook site. Judging is open to all. Voting forms are available from the Village Shop where you can also hand in your completed form. In order to keep this fair and to help towards the New Pavilion Fund judging forms will be charged at £1 each with proceeds going towards the fund. Votes must be in by Sunday 7 September at 12.30pm.. winners will be declared on the notice board next day. The Velvet Hammock - a Superhero - wishes you luck.
