The Village Voice for 7 March had lots in it but unfortunately it was missed at the office. Keith Ridley, the Editor in Chief of all the Sussex Express newspapers, apologises to everyone who reads the Icklesham Voice.

Today, Friday 14 March is the first Lent Lunch in the Memorial Hall from 12.30 to 2.00pm. The meal is homemade soup, bread, a variety of cheeses and a drink. Everyone is welcome and it’s a good time for a chat. No charge but a donation to the week’s good cause, MacMillan Nurses, is welcomed.Lent Lunches will be on Fridays 21 and 28 March and 4 and 11 April.

Tomorrow 15 March another great social event. The Church Market is in All Saints from 11am till 2.00pm. Have coffee,tea, cakes or a light lunch in a friendly atmosphere. There will be a cake stall,jam,marmalade,hand made cards,bric-a-brac etc. If you have made any cakes or savouries and there are a few too many why not bring them along. The next Church Market is on Saturday 26 April and homemade goodies always sell well or perhaps you could help on a stall. Then you can look smart in a tabard and enjoy being part of the fun.

Easter Sunday 20 April and All Saints with St Nicolas will be beautifully decorated with Easter Lilies.All are invited to remember a Loved One who has passed way by donating a Lily in memory of that person. If you wish to make this meaningful gesture then see either Christine Overy or Janet Pegg at a Lent Lunch, a Sunday Service or the Church Market.The Lilies are £2 each and the dedications will be recorded in a special book at the rear of the Nave.

Saturday 1 March The Quiz Night was run on behalf of Icklesham Stoolballers who donated the evening’s profit of £372 to the New Pavilion Fund. This was an exciting event and of the 17 teams competing the top 7 were separated by a mere 7 points. This was the closest ever finish.The winners were Ham and Jam who were in contention right from the start, followed by Fab 5,Casualties,30 Somethings, Empty Heads,Stalybridge Celtic and One Out All Out. Stuart Baker thanks everyone who supported this quiz whether it was taking part or giving a raffle prize. Special thanks to Charlotte Wall and Emma Bellchamber for their great help. Stuart thinks the Quizzes have been going for about 9 years and amazingly the organizers have never had to buy a raffle prize. The next Quiz is Saturday 29 March.

The Reverend Hugh Moseley drew the winning numbers in the New Pavilion Lottery. 1st Seb Bishop £35, 2nd Colin McPhail £20, 3rd Stacey Baker £15, 4th Kevin Earl £10 and 5th Sue Leech £5. There are now 169 number holders. Only a few more and that first prize will be £50. So far the Lottery has raised almost £1250 for the New Pavilion.

Sunday 23 March the Hastings Half Marathon. Icklesham Casuals Football Club members Mike Beaumont,Martin Tytherleigh, Keith Swallow,Vernon Deller,Paul Sully and John Vidler will be running and hoping to raise funds for the New Pavilion.If you would like to sponsor them contact David Mayne or email the Club on [email protected]

Tuesday 25 March 7.30 drama at the Robin Hood with Body Waxing to raise money for St Michael’s Hospice and the Sarah Lee Trust.

Yes Summer dates for your diary. In May on the weekend of Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 as part of the National Gardens scheme Jo Sandeman-Allen is opening her garden at Knock Bridge off Laurel Lane. Sandra Stunt is hoping to run a cake stall and cater for teas and coffees This would be for the New Pavilion Fund and she needs volunteers to serve,wash up etc and donations of cakes,biscits and savouries. She’d be delighted to hear from you. The days run from11am till 5pm.

Kate and Syd Mylrea are again holding two fund raising events this year for the charity they have always supported - Breast Cancer Care.

Saturday 31 May7.00pm at Manor Farm Oast. A Dual Quiz - part general knowledge - part pictures. A buffet and a glass included in the entrance fee of £7 per person. team and individual prizes. a bar .as it is being held at Manor Farm Oast and the weather cannot be guaranteed, numbers have to be limited,so get a team together and book a place.

Sunday 6 July 12noon to 3pm the Annual Garden Party. A raffle, a treasure hunt, live music by Ricochet and for £6 a huge ploughman’s and a glass.

The Village Voice of 7 March was fated. Confused by the information about roadworks in the Friday Rye Observer I thought it would be a good idea to clarify the effects on Icklesham and put them in the Village Voice. I rang the

helpline number the next day and was told by a lady that the line did not operate over weekends. On Monday I rang and the gentleman assured me the relevant details would be soon with me. Nothing ever came.

And as I write this on Sunday morning Dexter of the Stores tells me Butchers Lane to Three Oaks is also closed!! Hastings is cut off.
