Tomorrow, Saturday 27, there is a Coffee Morning in the Memorial Hall 10.30 – 12 noon in aid of Family Support Work. Everybody is welcome and cakes,cards, and mugs will be on sale plus Bring & Buy and a raffle.

Thanks to the money from the Baker Family’s recent jumble sale enough has been raised to proceed with finalising Joan’ Memorial. It has been decided with Derrick and his family that the most fitting memorial would be a seat in the children’s play area and The Parish Council has approved the seat and its position.The work will be done when the weather and workload permit.

Derrick and the family would like to thank all those who donated. If anyone would still like to express their thanks to Joan for all that she did for the village, donations will still be gratefully received towards the installation costs – any surplus money will be given to St Michael’s Hospice.

The annual Poppy Day collection starts tomorrow and will continue until Sunday 11 November when there is a Remembrance Day Service starting at 10.30 in the Parish Church. There will be a house to house collection and collecting boxes at The Robin Hood, the Queen’s Head, Icklesham Village Stores, Windmill Orchard Farm Shop,Icklesham Church of England Primary School and the Five Villages House.

The election of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Sussex takes place on Thursday 15 November with the Memorial Hall acting as the polling station 7am –10pm. Everybody entitled to vote should have received a Poll Card.To vote by post application forms have to be received by next Wednesday 31 October.To vote by proxy the application has to be received by 7 November.For more details contact 01424 787825.

Stuart Baker reports that last Saturday’s Quiz raised £376 for Icklesham Trust who are responsible for the Memorial Hall and the Pavilion.15 teams entered and 8 of these scored over 75%. Casualties were the winners followed by Empty Heads,Nobby’s Nuts,Stalybridge Celtic. Flower Power, Allsorts & Highfords Hooligans. ‘’ Thanks to Jodie,Kimmy, Kirsty, Phil,J&J for their support,as this was the first time they had participated.let’s hope we see them again.Special thanks to Charlotte, Sandra, Kev & Mags for their help. The Trust would also like to thank Blacklands Fire or their continued support.’’

The Quiz Evening included the first New Pavilion Lottery Draw. The Reverend Canon Hugh Moseley did the draw. 1st prize £25 Peter Drew, 2nd £15 Alf Mayne 3rd £10 Ann Rachlin. Do you want to take part? It,s £1 a month paid in £6 or £12 instalments and you can have as many as you want.

The next Quiz is Saturday 24 November. The Ladies Darts team run it and are sharing the proceeds between MacMillan Nurses and the New Pavilion Fund.

Icklesham Casuals good season continued last Saturday with a 4-1 win against AFC Hastings in the 1st round of the Hastings F.A. Junior Cup. After 2 minutes they were a goal down but Sean Baker equalised before half time.In the last 10 minutes Casuals then scored 3 – 2 from Dave Pugh including a penalty and 1 from Phil Badrock.

The previous week there was an amazing match on the Recreation ground against Herstmonceux. First the Casuals had a 3 goal lead(George Richardson, Dave Pugh2). Visitors score 2 – 3-2. George Richardson and Phil Badrock score .5-2.Casuals give away a penalty 5-3. Sean Baker scores. 6-3 and it’s only half time. Herstmonceux score at restart 6-4. 10 minutes to go they score again 6-5 .Then Ian Oliver netted twice in a minute. 8-5. Visitors score in last minute Final score 8-6. In this ‘’game of two halves’ ‘the Casuals used 3 veteran substitutes. Each over 50. Martin Tytherleigh, Bob Baker and Steve Tytherleigh have almost two thousand Casual appearances between them and a combined age of 162.

A reminder Saturday 10 November, No Exit, the local band will be playing their fabulous mix of popular cover versions in the Memorial Hall at 8pm. Please support the event as all proceeds will go to the Club’s 75th anniversary charity fund raising. Free loft and cavity wall insulation is still available but this initiative is coming to an end. Icklesham Parish Council wants everybody to be aware of the opportunity before it is too late.

There is an Energy Cafe –really an advice centre- at WI Hall ,Houghton Green Lane, Playden 2.30 Saturday 27 October 1-4pm and Thursday 8November 3-6pm.

If you have family or friends that may be in a priority group( low income families with under 5s and low income pensioners with pension credit)they may also be entitled to insulation or cavity wall help.

Anyone living without mains gas and interested in switching to renewable heating should contact the Energy Advice Centre as soon as possible.

Monday 5 November The Icklesham Bonfire and Firework Display Gates open 6.30. Lighting of the Bonfire which follows the procession is at approximately 7.30. It will be lit by an Icklesham School pupil. Then the Firework Display.
