Icklesham death crash

A 62-year-old man has been warned he faces jail after pleading guilty to causing the death of another man by driving dangerously.

David Weston admitted his driving had been responsible for the fatal crash which killed 41-year-old Jeffrey Gale on the A259 at Icklesham on May 15, 2006.

Lewes Crown Court heard Weston had told officers at the scene of the accident he had "murdered" Mr Gale and that he blamed himself for the death.

Grahame James, defending Weston, told the court: "He still blames himself terribly for what has occurred. "At the roadside he called himself a murderer and nothing has changed in his mind.

"I am concerned that he needs to speak to someone professionally to assess his state of mind and the way this has affected him."

Bailing Weston to appear for sentence on January 29 when reports have been made, Judge Richard Brown said: "The almost inevitable conclusion will be a custodial sentence."
