Icklesham village voice

Wednesday 1 August Team GB win 2 Gold Medals at the Olympic Games and also on Wednesday 1 August at Team GB House at the Olympic Park a special gold medal was presented to Kate Mylrea of Icklesham.

For the last 12 months Kate has been taking part in the Gold Challenge raising money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. She committed herself to power walk 2012 kilometres before the start of the Olympics and she opted to raise £2012 for the Charity. Both challenges were completed by 15 July a week before the deadline.

Kate actually raised £3000 and as one of the top 24 fund raisers out of over 10500 she was invited to the presentation on 1 August.

Two Olympians made the presentation. Dalton Grant was 4 times Britain’s champion high jumper and at one time held the world record. His partner Noel Thatcher is a visually impaired athlete with 5 gold medals in the Para Olympics.

Kathryn Mylrea was interviewed immediately afterwards on BBC South East. She described the whole experience as ‘’beyond words’’, ‘’awe inspiring’’ and ‘’marvellous’’.

Kate would like to thank all who have supported her by donations,raffle prizes and attending one of her fund raising functions.

After a soggy summer, the sun shone on Icklesham’s annual Fete & Flower show last Saturday. The many locals and visitors were treated to the lovely Flower show, Wealden Brass Band, a brilliant dancing display by the children of Rye Dance Centre. The Applause roving theatre and Dizzy O’Dare bought their ‘last Apothecary show’ to the event and found a few willing patients to treat !

The fun dog show proved as popular as ever, with some lovely well behaved dogs. The many sideshows, crafts and attractions all helped to make the day, fun filled for all the family.

Both committees are very grateful to all who helped in any way to make this a very enjoyable day for the village.

Sunday 12 August 4-6 the Queen’s Head live music with John Pearson and Jem Turpin singing the Blues.

Saturday 18 August As this month’s Church Market will follow on the heels of the Fete and Flower Show it will be shorter than usual,11am -12.30pm no lunches but still cakes, produce bric-a-brac but of course a great chance for a coffee and a chat. All are welcome.
