Saturday 12 May from 10.00 the Horticultural Society has its Plant, Bring & Buy Sale and Coffee Morning in the Memorial Hall. The event returns because of popular demand. It’s a chance for anyone with surplus flowers or plants to bring them along to swop or sell and all are welcome to buy or have a coffee and a chat.

Sunday 13 May Rogation Service 10.30 if it is fine the congregation process around the Church to ask for God’s blessing upon every thing which is in His Creation including all that is produced by us on the land and in the offices and factories.

Queen’s Head Live Music 4-6 May Sands Quintet play Sinatra.

Tuesday 15 May 7.30 in the Memorial Hall, The Future of the Pavilion is what the Open Meeting will be all about.

A working group of the Icklesham Trusts Committee has been looking at the possible future of the Recreation Ground Pavilion. To refurbish ? to refurbish and extend the pavilion? to replace it with a new pavilion? The Trusts Committee would like to hear the views of all Icklesham residents with an interest in the pavilion. Any change will involve a considerable amount of work fund raising and seeking grants and the Committee want to ensure that any proposal has wide support before embarking on a particular scheme. The Committee is also very keen to see greater provision for youth sport in the village and welcomes anyone who shares in this vision.

Monday 21 May Annual Parish Assembly in Winchelsea New Hall 7.15. This is our local Council,’s annual public meeting. Each of the 4 wards, Icklesham, Rye Harbour, Winchelsea and Winchelsea Beach, hosts the meeting in turn. The New Hall is on the A259 with parking best in the nearby streets.All people living in the wards are entitled to attend and if on the electoral register can vote.However anyone with an interest is most welcome.

The Agenda includes reports from the Chairman Jim Horsman, East Sussex County Councillor Keith Glazier, and Rother District Councillors Paul Osborne and Nick Ramus.P.C. Paul Fielder will talk and discuss Community Speedwatch.Dr.Barry Yates will be talking and discussing Rye Harbour Nature Reserve which he manages.

Public comments and questions. Notification has been made that the following will be raised

a Footway lighting at Winchelsea -should it be turned off at midnight?

b Should the Parish Council borrow any more money?

c Other matters that electors may wish to raise..

There will be information stalls in the Hall and a chance to discuss the services provided and meet other residents and Parish Councillors.

Light refreshments will be provided towards the end of the meeting.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Icklesham Big Lunch is planned for all who live in the village( and visiting family and friends ) at Icklesham Recreation Ground on Bank Holiday Monday 4 June.

The free village celebrations will be opened at 1pm by the Vice-Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Mrs Sara Stoner, on behalf of the Queen. The committee organising the afternoon has arranged an outdoor stage with musical entertainment by the Geoff Bellhouse Band and the Icklesham Players. .This will represent the 60 years of the Queen’s reign.

Coffee/tea and cakes will be available in the Hall, but it is hoped that lots of people will come along with a picnic to enjoy.

There will be a fancy dress competition with a royal theme for both under and over 8 year olds. Further prizes for the best ‘’Golden Oldies’’ hat and the best adult costume of the afternoon.

For the young there will be traditional games like water balloons, apple bobbing, and sack races plus the ever popular boys v. girls tug of war

After prizes have been awarded at around 4pm, a mass rendition of the National Anthem will end he afternoon.

Look out for the invitations coming out designed by pupils from Icklesham Church of England Primary School.

The organising committee wish to thank everybody who has donated their time and equipment free to make this possible and Rother District Council for a grant of £250.

Our Parish Church is Celebrating the Jubilee with a display of photographs and memorabilia. The search is for photographs or pictures of things which have changed or disappeared up to about 1990. If you have anything of interest that you would be prepared to display or be photocopied please contact Rev. Hugh Moseley at Pilgrim’s End, Manor Close 01424 813588 or Christine Overy 01424 814927. All items will be returned after the event.

The Church will be decorated with baskets of flowers and it is hoped that lots of people will take part to fill All Saints with colour and scent.

Thursday 31 May 7pm The Flower Club members will be holding their meeting in the Church to make their baskets and they invite anybody who would like to make a basket for the Church to join in. Spare baskets and oasis will be available and there will be tea/coffee and biscuits on hand.

Alternatively you could make up your basket at home and bring it to Church on the Friday or Saturday morning. if you need to know more please ring Christine 01424 814927

The Parish Council has published a newsletter ‘’Icklesham Eye’’ which is distributed with the free advertising magazine the ‘’Rye Fixtures’’. The ‘’Eye’’ gives details of developments in all 4 wards of Icklesham civil parish.

It also asks for feedback so that the Council can make realistic and meaningful ideas and progress.

If you do have a complaint inform the Council who have a new complaints policy and procedure.

The Parish Action Plan

includes over 20 matters which residents have said were important to them. Only 4 have yet to be considered. These are affordable housing, a directory of clubs and societies, computer classes and better facilities for older people.

Let the Council know how you are affected by slow Broadband speeds.

Let them know if you would like to place a notice on the Community notice boards.

Let them know if you need any Active Ambling walks.

The Recreation Ground and its facilities is probably the issue which is most interesting to Icklesham. The Council has talked with parents, teenagers and young children from the School. Play equipment companies are giving quotes. The Council has set a target to raise at least 25% of the expected cost of £80000 from grants and other income to minimise the impact in local tax payers. The Council has been approached about the possibility of a multi-use games area with an all weather surface. The Council would like to hear views about this suggestion.

On the way to the windmill two very different types of livestock are grazing, The Badger Faced Welsh Mountain sheep are very adaptable. The breed frequently produce twins and often triplets and if there are lambs you can really appreciate the name. In the pasture almost below the windmill is a herd of magnificent Sussex cattle. This was the last breed used as oxen in England and they did so both on the heavy clay soils of the Weald and the steep slopes of the Downs. Certainly they would have been the draught animals used when the Hog Hill windmill was moved from Pett in 1785. The mill was already a hundred years old when it was moved.

Icklesham Stoolball Club had its annual presentation dinner on Saturday 21 April with 15 members present.

Matches for the 2012 season started on 8 May at Pett

Icklesham Ladies Darts Team finished its 2011 - 2012 Season by winning the League Knockout. Pat Baker threw the winning dart and Brenda Watson won the Highest Score in the Knockout and also in the Season.

The event was held at the ‘’Conqueror’’, Rye Harbour where all matches are played. Bernie the landlord put on a great supper and was thanked by Sue Playford, the League Organiser, on behalf of all the ladies.
