Tomorrow 7 April is Holy Saturday and at 6pm there is the Service of Light, the Renewal of Baptism Vows and the Blessing of the Easter Garden.

Sunday is Easter Day and there is a Parish Eucharist at 10.30. All Saints will be decorated with Easter Lilies ,each given in memory of a loved one.

At the Palm Sunday Service the Retirement of the Reverend Canon Howard Cocks was announced. Howard has been Vicar of Icklesham since 2004. In the joint benefice he is also Rector of Winchelsea. Canon Cocks will become a Brother in Charterhouse in Finsbury. This is an ancient charity with about 60 brothers in residence. The Brothers are Anglican but not all are clergy. Historically there is a link with the famous Public School in Godalming, Surrey.

*Saturday 7 April. The . Spring Flower Show of Icklesham Horticultural Society is in the Memorial Hall. Staging is 8-10 am. It,s open at 2pm and as well as the beauty of the exhibits there

will be teas, a raffle and a tombola.

Recycling collection is not affected by the 2 Bank Holidays. Only at Christmas and New Year is the schedule altered.

Icklesham Cricket Club has started practice nights at the Rye Leisure Centre. They are on Tuesdays 5.30 - 7.00pm New players and members are always welcome. If you are interested contact Stuart at [email protected]

The Chair of Governors of Icklesham Church of England Primary School Nigel Kirton has written to the parents saying how delighted he is that Mrs Paula Robinson will have a permanent appointment from September 2012. Mrs. Robinson will continue to share the school leadership with Mrs Pauline Higgs for one ore academic year. Mrs Robinson will become the full time Head when Mrs Higgs retires in August 2013.

The letter says

“The Governors have been impressed by Mrs. Robinson’s commitment to the very highest of standards and her obvious affection for our children and the whole school community. The partnership with Mrs Higgs has proved to bean unquestionable success. I believe we were blessed to have had such an outstanding leader for so many years and finding a worthy successor to Mrs. Higgs was never going to be an east task. I am, however , confident that Mrs. Robinson can maintain and continue to build on the values that make Icklesham C.E.P. such an exceptional school.’’

Icklesham Casuals have had to change the venue for the evening reunion on Saturday 16 June. It has been switched from the Memorial Hall to the Lodge at Winchelsea.

Icklesham Casuals Football Club was formally founded at a meeting held at Thompson’s Tea Rooms in Rye on Saturday 3 April 1937. Thompson’s Tea Rooms is now Turtle Fine Arts at 26 Landgate. The building is currently for sale and the owners have kindly allowed the Club to put a display of photographs from all decades of the Club’s history along with other memorabilia in the window.

In the last month the Club has lost three former players.Cyril Rich made 389 appearances scoring 219 goals making him in sixth place of the all time scorers. Reg Carter played 216 games, scored 16 goals and captained the side from 1941-42 to 1947-48.. He led the side to its first ever trophy in 1947-48 when the Casuals won the Robertsbridge Charity Cup. Ron Barden scored 88 goals in 256 appearances and he was a key member of the team who were Hastings League Champions in 1957-58. The condolences of the Club go to their families.

I must apologies for an error I made last week ,Cyril and Violet Rich moved together to the Five Villages when they retired.

On a brighter note the Casuals would like to congratulate Dave Minett,a former player, who has been selected as one of the torch bearers who will carry the Olympic Flame as it travels through the area in July.
