HASN’T THIS BEEN A LOVELY WEEK?: Is it my imagination, or are there more trees than usual dotted around our countryside showing red hues? Is this due to climate change, or what? Anyway, it’s proving to be a lovely autumn. Did any of you have trick or treater’s for Halloween? I bought one lot of sweets, then ate them watching ‘Strictly’, another lot were passed out to visitors due to a lack of biscuits, then finally I bought a giant sized pack for Halloween, and got left with most of them, so anyone who wants a cup of coffee and an edible eyeball is most welcome!

A SERVICE OF HOLY COMMUNION: There will be a service of Holy Communion in Iden Parish Church, this Sunday, at 9.30 am.

THE IDEN QUARTERLY MAGAZINE: This booklet, edited by John Hazelden will be out again soon. There will be a donation box in Iden Stores, to help with it’s publication. John has put a lot of thought into this venture, and, a small monetary donation will help it’s continuation. I find it most useful, to check on dates etc.

KNIT AND NATTER [PLEASE NOTE]: The next Knit and Natter will be on Tuesday 25th November. The one on 8th November is cancelled.

BINGO [PLEASE NOTE]: The last of Ray Griffin’s Bingo sessions will be on Thursday 1st December, in Iden village hall, in order for the remaining jackpot to be won. It will be won on that day on a full house. Doors open at 2pm, Eyes down at 2.30pm.

VILLAGE JUMBLE SALE, TOMORROW.: There will be a jumble sale in Iden village hall, tomorrow Saturday 5th November. From 10.30 am, onwards.]

A SAD LOSS: Our village has recently lost two lovely ladies, Peggy Spence, and Gwyneth Parsons. Both had reached a great age. Peggy was 101 years, and Gwyneth 96 years. Both had very endearing characters, and both will be greatly missed by family and friends. Gwyneth passed away on 19th October, and Peggy on 23rd October. They were practically neighbours, and knew each other well, and my first thought when I heard they had both died was that who knows, perhaps somewhere they are enjoying each other’s company still, reminiscing about Iden, and the history they must have shared through their joint longevity. Gwyneth’s funeral is on 8th November at 1pm, in Iden Parish Church, and Peggy’s on 11th November at 2.15pm., in Iden Parish Church.

IDEN NATURAL HISTORY SOCIETY: On November 11th, in Iden village hall, there will be the ‘Breda and Ernie Burt Memorial Lecture’ entitled ‘Sussex Wildlife Safari’, by Michael Blencoe. Michael is the co-author of ‘The Butterflies Of Sussex’, which is a definitive work, based on 5 years of study, and is to be published in the Spring of 2017. Details will be available at the meeting on how to obtain a special pre-publication offer. The meeting starts at 7.30pm. Visitors pay £3

A MOTH IN THE FREEZER: I am hoping to ask Michael Blencoe [above], if he will look at a moth, which my cat brought in. It’s huge, this thing [unbelievably so] and not like any moth I’ve ever seen. I put it in a heavily sealed plastic box in the freezer, hoping to find some expert on moths/ butterflies. It gives me the creeps [I’ve said it before, I could never go on a safari.] Anything which flies, slithers or hangs upside down needn’t come knocking at this house!
