A LITTLE BIT OF COMFORT: When my children were babies, and able to sit up in a pram, I sometimes called in at the bakers and I would tuck them up with a warm loaf. They loved it. They would pick a little hole in the bread, and look at me as if to say '˜look what I'm doing'. I didn't mind, I let them pick an even larger hole. [apparently there is a lot of calcium in a white loaf and it kept them amused!]

My little 21 year old cat likes to sleep on a handbag lately, preferably a soft leather one. She tries to get right inside, and it’s hard to get to my purse, and tissues etc [but even harder to disturb a geriatric cat.] When I was nursing on paediatrics, mothers would bring in all kinds of weird and wonderful things that would settle their children. One little boy would only sleep if he had a rolled up ball made from his mother’s old stockings.

Following a bout of flu, I became unashamedly attached to a big green cushion, which I still throw into the bed every night. It’s not too Hard, and not too soft, and once I feel it’s trim, which is extra wide rick-rack braid, I relax. Now why is that? Maybe I’m going through a second childhood, but lets face it, even a cat won’t rest until it finds that extra warm spot on the window sill!

A GOOD TIME AT THE BOWLS CLUB.: Iden bowls club had another bingo session on Friday 29th April. It’s nice to be utilizing the clubhouse for a little frivolity. It’s a very cosy space, particularly now that we have Lynne Hanson’s lovely curtains to grace the windows. Just another pocket of fun to be had in Iden.

DONATIONS PLEASE FOR BARGAINS GALORE: Carol Bourne is collecting any books, clothing and bric-a brac for Iden Fete’s ‘Bargains Galore’. Anything except electrical goods will be most welcome. Carol and her team of helpers do a grand job every year with this enormously attractive part of the fete. Everyone loves Bargain’s Galore, so please look out some goods. SERVICE OF HOLY COMMUNION: There will be a service of Holy Communion, in Iden Parish Church, this Sunday, at 9.30am.

HOME TWEET HOME!: The swallows are back in the bus stop opposite ‘The Bell’ pub in Iden. Every year they fly in and out of the bus stop, regardless of whoever is waiting for the bus. They are messy souls, not given to cleaning up, but their hearts are in the right place because their main priority is feeding their young. It’s a ready made home. A simple wooden hut. No en suite, but you can’t have everything. How do they remember to return every year? Such tiny feathered heads must hold an enormous amount of brains!

BINGO: The next Bingo is on the 19th May in Iden village hall. Everyone is welcome, from Rye and surrounding villages. Doors open at 2pm, eyes down at 2.30pm. There is a wealth of fun to be had.

THE POP-IN: The next Pop-In will be in Iden village hall, at 11am, on Monday16th May. Do join us, for coffee/tea and biscuits, and bric-a-brac. I’ts a friendly way to start the week everyone is welcome.

HOW WONDERFUL TO SEE YOU: I didn’t invite them in to my garden, but a big clump of forget-me not’s just appeared without a by your leave. Aren’t they beautiful, self seeding, and such a wonderful blue. We don’t always appreciate things which turn up uninvited, but I was very pleased about the arrival of these guys. I would love to have said ‘come on in, bring your friends, just bed down anywhere and let me fetch you some water. A little appreciation was called for. It’s just a pity I don’t speak forget –me –not!
