The very popular Coffee Morning arranged to coincide with the Mobile Library visit was last time given over to a Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee morning. The fund raising was well attended by villagers who were able to buy refreshments, cakes and books. £160 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support. A very big thank-you to all who contributed and supported the event.

The next Mobile Library van visit is on Monday from 12.05 to 12.45 at Iden village hall with the ever popular Pop-in Coffee stop.

On 19th November John and Sue White will be off once again to the Gambia for what they describe as a “working holiday.”

What this means of course, is that they are returning to help to complete the work which they started in the building of a school for 100 children under 5, which opened in February this year.

All this means very hard work -- painting, gardening and building an accommodation block for the teachers. It is, of course, all for a very good and worthwhile cause.

During the past year residents have been very supportive of the commitment which John and Sue have given to the charity which manages this operation, making such a great difference to so many.

Sue would also like to thank all those who supported and helped with the Iden Cricket Club’s Jumble sale on 3rd November. £800 was raised for funds.

The Iden and Playden Garden Society will be holding the first Winter Lecture on Monday 12th November at 7.30 pm in the village hall. Mr. Ken Turner will show how easy it is to have “Colour and Interest all Year Round” in your garden. Admission is £1 for members and £2 for visitors and guests.

The 9.30 am service will be a special Service of Remembrance beginning in church. This will not be a communion service and the congregation will be invited to walk along to the Memorial where prayers will be said, names read out and the two minutes silence will be observed. This will not actually be at 11 am, but when it happens, probably about 10.20 am. All villagers are very welcome to join the congregation at the Memorial. The Vicar has to move on to Playden to lead the service there.
