Iden engineers use pedal power

Lankelma Engineering use pioneering equipment to carry out major underground surveys all over the globe.

But their staff turned to the engineering marvel of the bicycle to support Cycle to Work Day on Wednesday.

Workers were joined by Ashford paratriathlete Adrian Heathfield in a 30km early morning bike ride from Ashford to Lankelma’s Iden headquarters.

Site investigation specialist Lankelma is helping to fund Adrian’s training, to help him achieve his goal of qualifying for the 2016 Rio Paralympics, which will feature triathlon for the first time.

Lankelma Managing Director Eric Zon said: “It’s fantastic that Adrian has been chosen for the development squad and we are delighted that our sponsorship will help a local athlete achieve his ambitions.”

Adrian Heathfield added: “I’m very happy to support Lankelma in its efforts to get staff onto their bikes instead of driving to work – although I think they may be looking to make their regular cycling commute a bit shorter!”

Lankelma carries out site investigation work for construction and infrastructure projects. The company, which employs 50 staff, was established in Iden in 1999 and since then has expanded to work throughout the UK and Ireland, as well as overseas.
