There was a very moving ceremony earlier this month when a plaque was unveiled in the Playing Field to commemorate its donation in September 1934. The Field was given to the Parish for the perpetual use of its residents by the late Eric Mason who lived in Park Farm.

It was particularly appropriate that Mr Mason’ daughter, Mrs Sylvia Lindsay was present to unveil the plaque and was able to meet several residents who knew her Father and had attended the ceremony handing over the Field 78 years ago.

The Village is enormously indebted to Mr Mason for his gift which has been used and enjoyed by thousands of people for so many years. The ceremony coincided with the placing of the Field into the Queen Elizabeth Challenge which means that now in trust, it can never be used for any other purpose as Mr Mason wished.

Mrs Lindsay’s early years were at Park Farm and she was married in 1949 in Iden Church. Although her husband could not be present for the unveiling, she was able to return with him later in the day to see the plaque. Both were clearly extremely touched and thrilled by the whole event.

Special thanks are due to Tom Huggett and Derek Barham who both designed and installed the plaque which will now be seen by everyone who uses the wonderful and irreplaceable facility Iden has in its Playing Field

On Monday 27 August there will be a show of local art for sale at Oxenbridge in the afternoon with Cream teas. This will be in aid of the National Trust

A advice is now on the Village Notice Board detailing a Christmas Lunch for the over 60s which will be held in the Village Hall on Saturday 15 December. The cost is just £5 and early booking is advised- details on the board. This replaces the Christmas Day lunch.

Residents were very sad to hear of the death recently of Bryan Down who lived in the village until 4 years ago when he moved to Dorking. Bryan was Churchwarden and Chairman of the Friends of Iden Church. Our thoughts are with Diana at this time.

There will not be meetings on Wednesday for Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer.

The 9.30 am service for the 12th Sunday after Trinity will be Parish Communion led by the Rev. Stella Halmshaw.
