The concert in Iden Church last Saturday was a sell out and a very enthusiastic audience who had turned out in atrocious weather, enjoyed the recital by the Navarra Quartet. These young musicians last visited Iden 5 years ago and since then their careers and reputation has gone from strength to strength. The works played were by Haydn, Mendelssohn and Schubert accompanied by occasional noisy gusts of wind from the gale going on outside, which only added to the atmosphere and in no way dented the audience’s enjoyment.

The concert was organised by Gill and Tony Clamp and a donation will be made to the Friends of Iden Church towards the restoration fund for this magnificent 12th century building.

The day was also accompanied by an exhibition in the Old Hall of paintings by Rye artist Martin Bradshaw and again was well attended despite the rain. A raffle for one of his paintings of Iden Church was held as part of the concert preliminaries and there is now a very happy owner

As always the Friends are very grateful to Gill and Tony for all they do to arrange these events and sell the tickets. They both have a particular love of the Church which makes an excellent venue for concerts, not only from a sound point of view but also its sheer beauty
