Parsonage Way has become very crowded according to resident David Davis who has seen the number of vehicles parking along the side of the road dramatically increase since the start of the year.

Mr Davis said double yellow lines run up and down one side stopping people from parking along it.

However, these lines have slowly been worn down and cars are now parking on both sides of the road restricting access for road users and pedestrians.

He said: “One side of the road is double yellow and the other side is free.

“You can’t park on both sides.

“We have lived here for 12 years and never has anyone parked there before but in the last four months people have been parking there all the time.”

The problem is occurring daily with many vehicles mounting the kerb to leave room for cars in the road.

Mr Davis said these vehicles were now blocking the pavement meaning pedestrians were struggling to get through.

People now can’t get up and down the pavement,” he said.

“It is stopping people with prams getting up and down the street. It is immensely frustrating.”

He added it was not just pedestrians that were being affected with cars, including his wife’s, being hit and drivers from businesses at the industrial estate at the end of the road struggling to get through.

Mr Davis has spoken to West Sussex County Council which agreed to come out at the beginning of May to re-paint the lines but so far nothing had been done.

The council said it was investigating the issue.

A spokesman said: “This job is on order as we do our lining work during the summer months. We are looking to schedule it in along with the rest of our line painting programme across the county.

“Parsonage Way is a concrete surface. Warmer and drier weather makes the paint material we use last longer when applied to a concrete surface.

“If cars are being parked on the pavement and they are causing an obstruction, it is illegal and can be dealt with by Sussex Police.”
