The meeting is being held by the Marshlink Line Stakeholder Group will take place at 2.30pm.

The chair of the group, Kevin Boorman, explained: “The Marshlink Group is one of several Community Rail Partnerships in Kent and Sussex, and its whole purpose is to get the local community more involved in using the line.

“The Marshlink provides a vital transport link between Ashford, Rye and Hastings, and on to Eastbourne and Brighton. It is easy to forget when you see how busy some of the trains are that it was once threatened with closure.

“We are keen to see local people with an interest in the line to get more involved with the work of the Community Rail Partnership, so if you are interested, please do come along.”

One of the main priorities people would like to see on the line is dual tracking and electrification from Ashford to Hastings.

Overcrowding is also a major issue with commuter groups calling for rail operators Southern to provide more carriages.

They also want to see a better Sunday service on the line.
