‘Impressive 
results’ at 
Battle Abbey

The school bucked the national trend with Abbey’s pass rates on the up, much to the joy of students and staff.

Headmaster David Clark was on hand to congratulate pupils. He said: “We are absolutely thrilled with yet another crop of impressive results at A-Level this year.

“More pupils than ever will be going on to top universities including Imperial College, Edinburgh, Exeter, Liverpool and Birmingham amongst others.

“Many of the pupils have exceeded expectation and are now in the process of applying through clearing to get to even better universities so we don’t yet know the full extent of our pupil destinations.

“What we do know is that 64 percent of all candidates achieved A* to B grades, up from 59 percent last year, with an overall pass rate of 98 percent, up two percent.

“Perhaps best of all an excellent 84 percent of all pupils achieved A*-C grades across the board.

“Particular mention should go to Ellen Couchman who achieved four A grades, and has a place to study History and Politics at Queen Mary, William Sapsford who’s A*AAB will enable him to go on to Exeter and Thomas Munro who achieved A*AA and who will be going on to study at Imperial.

“One of our top sportswomen, Hannah Duval, achieved AAB and will now go on to study sports management at Birmingham.

“These are fantastic A-Level results for a small school where every grade can significantly impact on the overall statistics and where every grade is as important to the school as it is to the pupil.

“The results improved on last year’s excellent haul and are a great credit to pupils and parents but not least the teachers who, with enthusiasm and skill, have once again drawn the very best out of our pupils.

“The academic achievements of our boys and girls are rightly what we must be judged on and all the pupils have worked consistently throughout their time in the Sixth Form and deserve the excellent grades achieved.

“They have ensured that my first year as headmaster at Battle Abbey School has been a success and I’m looking forward to building on these strong results in the future.”
