In the heart of the lion Chinese style

Fascinated children at a Bognor Regis school became lion dancers for the afternoon.

The pupils at The Glade Infant School were given the chance to get inside the fearsome looking creatures and see how they move.

The hands-on experience provided a unique chance to bring Chinese culture alive for the 60 four and five-year-olds and 15 nursery school children.

It followed an energetic and loud performance with two ornate lions by the seven members of the Yi Quin Lion Dance Club from Southampton.

The movement of the lions was accompanied by plenty of banging of drums and crashing of cymbals as the tradition of the Far East came to Westloats Lane.

Vikki Cripps, the school's foundation stage co-ordinator, said: "It was a very energetic performance. The dancers used our PE tables to leap and jump around and our children were amazed by what they could do.

"They also loved having the chance to get underneath the lions. It got them really excited and was the ideal start to our Made in China topic for the foundation stage pupils."
