Inside today's Rye and Battle Observers

Rye’s lead story is tragic but has a happy ending as teenager Nell Robbins returned to her Rye Harbour home four months after falling in on a school trip to France.

The 14-year-old Rye College pupil got pneumonia and was in an induced coma for three weeks, came very close to dying at least three times, but managed to pull through and came home to her family on Wednesday.

In Battle, the magnificent statue on the roundabout at the top of High Street to mark the 950th anniversary of 1066 will be unveiled today.

The sculpture, designed by Guy Portelli, depicts a Saxon soldier and a Norman fighter on horseback.

Other stories include the campaign to bring back the tourist information point to Battle, a preview of tomorrow’s Rye Bonfire Night, and a house daubed in paint by vandals.
