Jasmine Nicholls, 21, recently graduated from Northbrook College in Worthing with a BA (Hons) in creative media practice (photography) and is now studying for a PGCE in art and design.

She was one of three students to be shortlisted for the final of the AoC Student Photographer of the Year 2015, based on the level of creativity and the ability to demonstrate this year’s theme of What Matters Most.

Jasmine said she was stunned when she received the phone call to say she had been shortlisted.

“I knew my tutor, the principal and the college would be thrilled with the news. I couldn’t have done it without my course leader, Kirste McCool.

“I entered this image as everything we do comes back to the fact we are alive and healthy on this planet. To be healthy and thankful, we first have to take care of what is keeping us alive in the first place.”

The winner was Alice Armfield from Isle of Wight College, with Jasmine in second place and Jamie Brown from Peter Symonds College in Winchester third.

Martin Doel, chief executive of AoC, said: “This year’s entries were of a very high standard with a great sense of creativity and imagination. Jasmine’s image is well composed and captures what matters most to the subjects in the photo.”
