Members of the Lewes-based Intrepid Theatre delighted the audience with their performance of Beauty and The Beast.

Young people aged from four to 14 were involved in the success at the All Saints Centre, Friars Walk, where the special guest was the Mayor of Lewes, Cllr Ruth O’Keeffe. She later presented badges to the cast and Intrepid staff.

It was inspired by La Belle et la Bete by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, which is the oldest known version of the fairy tale.

Produced by Richard Hawley, it saw script development by Helen Bendell and dramaturge by Alison West.

Feedback from parents afterwards included: “Thank you for a wonderful show – we all thoroughly enjoyed watching it”; and “It was a great production and so wonderful to see all the groups performing so well together.”

Others involved in the triumph included director and drama teacher Helen Bendell, choreographer and dance teacher Lauren Kracke and drama assistant Rory Bines-Morris with lighting design and operation by Stephen Savage. Costumes were made by Beverley Wells.

Front of house duties were performed by Max Griggs and Harry Willsher.
