Choon Tan from Bognor Regis may stand only 4ft 10in tall, but that isn’t stopping him from making a real impression in his sport.

The 21-year-old university student was born with a rare defect called x-linked spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia tarda.

His condition stops his bones growing normally and occurs mainly in males.

Choon says he began bodybuilding after being bullied as a child and it has not only helped him physically but also mentally.

He competes in the Men’s Physique section for the UKBFF Federation and he recently came fourth in a national competition held in Glasgow.

The former Felpham Community College and Chichester College student’s achievements saw him featured in a national newspaper this week and his dad said he was ‘extremely proud’ of everything his son has done.

Jarvis Tan said: “A friend told me that Choon was featured in the Metro and when I went onto their website there he was.

“He is quite small because of his condition, he’s 4ft 10in tall but he’s been very determined since he found this new sport, he came fourth in a big competition in Glasgow.”

Choon is currently studying entrepreneurial business management at Northumbria university and uses his Instagram page, @imchoontan, to encourage others that they can achieve their goals.
