Invite to take on quarry

CONSERVATION groups are being invited to take over Slindon Bottom Quarry.

The offer has been made by the owner of the former quarry pit, L&S Waste Management.

It is offering a 99-year-or-more lease on the restored site for any organisation that can show demonstrate a genuine commitment to conservation.

Initial ideas have included a possible new north-south bridleway, parallel with Slindon Bottom Road and one east-west parallel with the existing footpath.

L&S Waste managing director Mick Balch said: “By announcing our intentions for the long-term protection of the Slindon Bottom Quarry we can hopefully alleviate any local concerns people may have had over the future of the site.

“L&S Waste has no interest in applying for, or operating, a waste plant from the Slindon site and the site will categorically not be used for landfill. Our only intention is to engineer the restoration of the land using appropriate inert fill material.”
