Irene murder investigation - arrested 17 year-old released on bail

THE hunt for the killer of 85 year-old Irene Herring took a new twist last night.

Murder team detectives had announced on Monday that they had arrested a 17 year-old Bexhill girl in connection with Mrs Herring's death.

On Tuesday night they announced that the girl had been released on police bail until April 1.

Mrs Herring, 85, died in the Conquest Hospital at Hastings last Monday of pneumonia after inhaling smoke in a fire at her room at Ancaster Court nursing home the previous morning.

A team of more than 25 headed by Detective Chief Inspector Andy Griffiths has been investigating the fire.

Mrs Herring's widower, David, has issued a moving personal tribute to his wife.
