A new approach to tackling roadside car repairs around Bognor Regis is being considered by councillors.

They are likely to adopt the approach used in Norfolk where the Highways Act 1980 is used to clear the vehicles by stating they are trespassing on the roads.

Persistent offenders are targeted and threatened with enforcement action.

Members of the Joint Downland Area Committee agreed to gather more facts about the Norfolk scheme before they made a final decision.

Figures from the county council's trading standards officers showed that the Arun district is a hotspot for roadside vehicle sales.

A total of 357 complaints about the matter around the district were received last year. This accounted for two-thirds of all the moans throughout the county.

Top area around Bognor is Bersted which was the focus of 44 complaints. The west side of Chalcraft Lane is the most popular area for the sales.

Another regular site is the north side of Upper Bognor Road.
