But there will not be any tiresome plane journeys needed or tedious queues inside an airport terminal to overcome.

The only boarding ticket people will need to buy is one to enter the Windmill Entertainment Centre, in Littlehampton – for the Stage-Door Theatre Company’s next show, Carousel, which opens from Wednesday (December 4), until Saturday, December 7.

The comedy, directed by Meg Bray with musical direction from Malcolm Munro and choreography by Kim Merceta, is set in one of the USA’s most northern states, Maine.

It follows the townsfolk of a small fishing community on the coastal state as they prepare for the much-anticipated arrival of Mullen’s Carnival and Carousel to the area – and in particular the handsome, charismatic Billy Bigalow.

Billy, portrayed by Jamie Griffiths, is the playboy of the carnival.

He is a man who can have any girl he wants. But much to the frustration of Mrs Mullen (Clare Cossins), right, the owner of the carousel, who is also attracted to the lothario, he has already fallen in love with one of the local girls.

Julie Jordan, played by Laura Thornett, is a shy and thoughtful girl who is swept of her feet by Billy and they are soon married, much to the dismay of Mrs Mullen who, in a fit of rage, sacks Billy.

He is left penniless, jobless and with a baby on the way Billy becomes desperate for money.

He takes up a precarious job with Jigger (Scott Hudson), a sailor and crook, who comes up with a plan to rob the captain of a whaling ship in the harbour. The plan goes horribly wrong with tragic consequences for Billy and his family.

Carousel is a diverse mixture of comedy and drama. Stage-Door’s rendition looks to freshen up the show with different surroundings.
