It's always a sunny day for society artists

Its tradition of bringing lovely weather continued when it staged its exhibition at the Norfolk Centre, Arundel, from Saturday, May 3 to Monday, May 5.

The exhibition was held over three glorious days of sunshine.

A total of 45 artists exhibited 190 framed paintings and 74 unframed. These were executed in all the media '“ oils, acrylic, water colours, pastels and pencil and inks.

Many visitors remarked on the extensive range of subject matter covered.

There were the now-traditional wide range of animal paintings '“ a feature of the society. Gorillas, meercats, panthers, lions, tigers, zebras, bears, elephants, cats, horses, owls, various birds and butterflies were all on display.

There were also flower paintings, harbour scenes, castles, cottages, houses, churches, river scenes, seascapes, boats, fantasy scenes, delightful female studies, tanks and planes.

The bright sunlight in the spacious centre enables these pictures to be displayed to their best advantage, bringing out the many vibrant colours.

When the flag-decked grounds were opened, the first visitor walking boldly in through the gates was a female duck '“ with her seven tiny ducklings in close pursuit.

She walked up to the front door to the utter delight of all present.

Pat Ragless then gently ushered her and her quacking brood out and directed her towards the castle moat.

She was followed over the three days by a total of 1,695 visitors who, judging by their remarks and comments really enjoyed the exhibition, as did all the members who exhibited.

The society now looks forward to its next exhibition, again at Arundel, in August.
