Ivy (100) still enjoys her outings

Being 100 failed to stop Ivy Pickard wanting her regular outing along Felpham seafront.

Ivy was taken for her regular journey in the fresh air on her birthday by her friend Sophie Brookwell.

Sophie said: 'I take Ivy out every week for several hours along the seafront, where we have lunch and a cup of tea at the Lobster Pot, or to Hotham Park. She loves the fresh air and being outdoors.'

Ivy's birthday outing was fitted in among the celebrations at Oakland Court residential retirement hotel in Admiralty Road, where she is the eldest of its 37 residents.

She was born in Edmonton, North London, and had six brothers and sisters. She worked as a nanny and was married to Kurt for two weeks short of 50 years before his death.

Ivy lived on the Glenwood estate in Bognor for about 30 years with him and on her own before she moved into Oakland Court some 15 years ago.

Sophie (40) has befriended her for the past 20 years. They got to know each other through Ivy's visits to a Bognor solicitor's office where Sophie worked.

'She never moans, she has a very young spirit and just enjoys the simple things in life and appreciates them,' said Sophie.
